Ford to sell Mazda shares?
Ford to sell Mazda shares?
http://www.reuters.com/article/ousiv...49A0V720081011 I hope it's for the better.
I am not really sure how it works, right now Ford has the bare minimum to control mazda at 33%.
You should be right tho, Mazda must get more shares to gain control.

if its true. then we should see less and less share platform between Ford & Mazda.
Mazda is doing pretty well lately, dont really need Ford Anymore.

^^ Yea, I have the EXACT same thoughts as you.
but maybe I will get a few shares, I mean Ford is now like what, 2 bucks a share ?
if I dont buy the Autoexe bumper *COUGH COUGH* I can get a few hundred shares right there

Can you say..............."Ford...short sell".
Not recommending that of course...........it's a dangerous game.
At some point I'll have to jump back into the overall market, I'm just sitting tight for now though.

It may seem that Ford controls Mazda at a bare minimum. However too many of Mazda platforms are intertwined with several Ford vehicles, many of these platforms are owned by Ford (don't forget what Mark Fields did for Mazda with the milenium program). So the question is if Ford sells all its Mazda shares will Mazda have enough money for R&D. If not, Mazda could be in a very difficult position.
Awhile back there was talk that Ford might sell Volvo. I said the same thing now as i said then-
Ford can't do this. Its insane. As with Volvo Ford is reliant upon Mazda for its best selling, best performing and safest platforms. Without Mazda having led the chassis development Ford wouldnt have the great 40mpg Fiesta that is about to be unleashed in the US ( http://www.motortrend.com/photo_gall...ery/index.html ) . which i just read an amazing review of on the magazine rack yesterday.
I suppose if Ford retains some 13% (or even without it) their can still be engineering partnerships or parts sharing - Like that 2.2l Diesel we are hearing good things about. But really it makes no sense for them to unload Mazda.
Personally i think this would mean less of a chance that Mazda brings the 2 to the States because it would decrease the chances of them finding a Production facility in the states that they have been thinking about.

Interesting article from March Mazda: Ford Won't Sell the Family Jewel
Mazda is definitely the shining star in Ford's global portfolio. I honestly don't care about Ford, I just hope this potential sale works out in Mazda's favor, whether they buy back control or whether another car maker becomes involved.
The Japanese have just recently started to emerge from their own recession and real estate bubble bursting that began nearly 20 years ago. There are now plenty of healthy financial institutions in Japan that would back Mazda if they wanted to retake control of their company. And there's no reason not too, Mazda is definitely has the most compelling lineup of cars of any "non-premium" brand. Mazda even puts some supposedly "premium" brands to shame IMHO.

in my opinion Mazda NEEDS an agreement like that one with Ford.
Mazda have a top tecnology in platform/chassis development and generally small and midsize car.....but.....they have NOT sales volumes enough to "spread" the costs of development.
with Ford they CAN do this.
A Mazda "all alone" it's a fascinating option but reminds me to the 80-90's movie:
"Mazda: beautiful cars but not enough sales"
the final of that movie was not a happy end....(remember?)

But they (Ford) are desperate, and it ain't necessary good news for Mazda either. For Mazda it's been a long alliance that has actually worked.
