This is a thread from the dead! This thread is getting to be less about street racing and more about speeding, but everyone should still know exactly what Florida Statute 316.191 says.

OK...I got tired at about page 5 so I'll just throw in my thoughts.

First, not to bash cops because alot of them do take pride in the "protect and serve" thing and put their lives on the line for our safety.

With that said, I have NEVER EVER been given a break or chance and I can tell you it's because I'm young and have always driven sporty cars. Also for some reason people assume a lot of things about me because of this (I have never cursed or disrespected a cop). I can say maybe because I'm Hispanic but I don't know that for sure so...I can't say it.

I've dealt with at least 8 cops in my life and 6 of them where arrogant ****** who verbally abused or disrespected me.

Examples:

I was driving by an area that I was unfamiliar with and I was going 45 in a 45 zone, unknown to me I drove into a school zone so the cop stops me. The second he notices I had a radar (I don’t have one anymore) he starts making fun and just being a *****.

With this cop, I think race had something to do with it. Why…because a white lady in a SUV who he knew was speeding and he was waving at her to slow down (not stop and give her a ticket) almost ran his *** over and he did NOTHING. She stooped and pulled over (eventually 30 yards in front of me) and he went over there (to confirm whiteness I think) and let her go.

So, I’m a young guy with a little sports car who did not know the area and thought he was following the speed limit yet a lady in a car almost runs him over and he let’s her go.

BS

At the University of Central Florida, while obeying the speed limit and stop signs, a cop (who was stationary and on the another road, important clue) pulled behind me and started following me around. The cop turns on the lights and stops me.

“Why was he following me when I did NOTHING wrong? Why did a parked cop decide to follow me for doing nothing wrong”

He tells me that my tag had expired (my moms car) and gives me a ticket. He tells me I can renew it and the ticket will be forgiven…well, that was wrong.

Wait…there is more.

The very next day with the same exact situation (doing nothing wrong) yet another cop decides to follow me and go out of his way to check me out.

When you aint doing anything wrong…why do you get stopped? Let me tell you that since moving from Miami I’ve seen more racism here in Central Florida.

At least cop #1 was not an ***.

I’ve also noticed that cops tend to hang out in lower income area’s (not to fight crime, but to give tickets) and I think that’s BS. Police34 said there are no quotes but why is it that towards the end of the month I always see the cops in the same area?

Last story, a none ticket story. I’m driving down the road and a car cuts me off and I honk and move to the next lane. Well…this person was an off duty cop so he sticks his badge through the sunroof of his car and tells ME…..ME….ME!!!!!!! that…that’s why people get shot on the road because of inconsiderate drivers like myself.

%&#)(%&*#%)(#&%#_%*#$_* HE CUT ME OFF!!!!!!!! Because he was a cop I’m supposed to slow down from my regular (none speeding) pace.

I’ll stop there because while I have other stories I think it’s unfair to the good cops out there. For me at least, I have never been given a break…I have been stopped for no reason…and I’ve dealt with the arrogance and attitude from jackass cops.

Is it because I’m young, with a sporty car, and Hispanic…I don’t know, only GOD knows the mind of those people but so far I have a bad taste in my mouth for cops.

Regarding the law…

What happens to this car? Do the cops get to sell it and keep the money? By the way, if our tax money pays for cops (among all the other stuff) and they have ticket money, and the money they make from auctioning criminal’s stuff, why do I get a phone call from cops asking me to donate money? I can be wrong…I’m just asking.

I think the law is good and bad. There is a place for such a law but without the details of the law I can’t really say much.

2 people racing should get their license suspended for 6 months if it’s their first offense. Either of those 2 people that get caught again then you wont drive again…PERIOD.

Now, if it’s just one person pealing out then that should be just a ticket (if they broke the speed limit, I don’t like “exhibition of speed laws regarding peeling out (if it’s slight)”. I’m sorry, but taking the car and suspending a person’s license is too extreme for doing that^.

^Remember, I say that not knowing the details of this law.

A drunk should lose his car and license “permanently” if:

He hurts someone else
If it’s his 2nd offense

If it’s first offense, just suspend his license for a year and force him into a program.

But, with me saying that everyone makes mistakes (some bigger than others) and laws should be tough while not being unmerciful. It’s hypocritical of us to demand perfection from anyone and be unforgiving when we all know we can act stupid at times. But, I still think too many laws are too soft.

I also agree with building more tracks so people can test their cars out there.

I think the law in a lot of area’s is too soft, but I think our leaders focus and punish the lesser crimes more so than the violent crimes. Hurting people with your car is different, but just people being stupid should not be enforced as if you raped, killed, or stole something.

Harsher punishment for harsher crime, instead of putting the fist of the law in the face of a lesser problem/crime.

These laws are bringing about a lot of "profiling" by cops. An exhaust system, body kit, wing/spoiler, sporty car in general, etc.; if you got it, your going to get "profiled".

I stay in VA and I've had a VERY difficult time with police. From DWBs to a cop trying to follow me and run my tags at the same time (pretty funny actually because he almost popped the curb and went off the road). Face it folks if you are young looking and driving a sporty looking car, 9 times out of 10 cops are going to use any law they can to check you out. And don't be a minority. Trust me. I've had 3 cops on me because my front plate was in the windshield.

Ike said all that needed to be said half way down the first page. Like trying 15 year olds as adults, going after street racers seems to be "en vogue" nowadays because everybody has a strong opinion on the subject and a strong prejudice towards those suspected of participating. Nevermind that 95% of the accidents and near misses most of us see on a daily basis involve drivers distracted by cell phones, backups caused by slow and/or indecisive drivers, old drivers and drunken drivers. It doesn't make the local S.F. news when some 80 year old Asian man takes out 4 pedestrians in a crosswalk in China town after accidentally hitting the gas rather than the brake. However the local media salivates at the opportunity to condascendingly report a single car fatality accident involving an 18 year old in a "modified import" as a result of a so called street race.

I call BULLSHIT that all cops are out to get you. It's not racism, it can happen to anyone.

I really get tired when minorities cry racism. It's a ******* crutch. LIFE IS UNFAIR, not everyone is treated equally (by nature, by others, by animals, whatever), nor should they be. Get over it and stop blaming other people for your misfortune. Like the bumper sticker says "**** happens". Apparently even hurricanes are racist now.

Furthermore, crying racism at every little perceived slight against you really trivializes the plight of people who suffered horribly at the hands of true racial crimes in the past. Now, if you get pulled over, shot 3 times and beaten to a pulp while being called a "f'in s***" then yeah, that's racism.

Wannahave - The UCF cops do that to anyone and everyone. I was killing some time between classes so I went for a drive. Started at the South garage, made a left, cop got behind me at the next light and followed my every move. I went (very carefully) around the entire campus, all the way back to the South garage and he even followed me into the garage, up all the levels until I parked and he stopped behind me. I walked up to him to ask him what the problem was and he went speeding away. That's happened to me twice now. I also had a cop follow me all the way home from campus and pull the same parking behind me move only to speed off. That department is the worst in the country - they're out for the sole purpose to harrass anyone who dares drive on their ground.
