Interesting review. Jalopnik said they didn't like the automatic (not surprising, they all have a weird obsession with the third pedal). The other review also didn't like the Fiat six speed, saying it was leftover from the NC. The fiancée wants a Miata, I wonder if I can steer her towards this? Also, holy crap 22 psi of boost.

Turbo and Miata are a great combination. Looking forward to test driving this.

I enjoyed the review from Jack Baruth at The Truth About Cars.
2017 Fiat 124 Spider Review ? Shhh, Don't Say Its Name

A Unichip on the 500 Abarth with the same turbo engine gets you north of 220hp... That would be a hoot to drive in RWD roadster form.

Am I the only one who can't stand how ugly that screen looks sticking out of the dash like that? It looks like it doesn't belong there. I know it's copied from Mazda, but I hate it so much it would be a deal breaker. I would not buy any car that has that.

It would've been cool if they did a pop up screen like in the RX-8. I always thought they were pretty neat. Even Aston Martins have them!

It does look tacked on at the last minute. They're half-way between it being a permanent fixture versus upgradable device.

Yeah nearly all the German makes are doing that now. It looks stupid as hell. The screen should be fully integrated into the dash.

Here's Why Americans Will Buy the Fiat 124 Spider Over the Mazda Miata

Nice video here with twisty driving shots, but its the lower-powered Euro version Spider they are driving on European roads, so no impressions of the higher hp American version Spider. Still some good comments of how it compares to the MX5

Exactly. Design-wise, it doesn't look natural at all. I see it looks retarded on the new CX-9 as well. Yet my friend has a new CX-5 where the screen is more integrated into the dash and I think that is the only car in Mazda's lineup that has it like that. It's much better looking.

^ It looks like a tablet just stuck into the dash... now if it actually was a tablet and removable... No... I probably still wouldn't like it then either!

You didn't read the article, did you?

Compared with the 155-hp 2.0-liter in the Miata, the turbocharged engine comes across as lazier and less eager to be abused. Some of that is certainly due to the easy flow of low-end torque, but the Fiat never feels any stronger than the naturally aspirated Miata. Turbo lag is present, but it’s easy to mitigate by keeping the revs above 2000 rpm. However, should you roll through a stop in second gear and lug the engine down to idle, you’ll find there’s a delay before the engine wakes up. Fiat claims a zero-to-60-mph time of 6.8 seconds. We think that’s slightly conservative—after all, we’ve achieved a 5.9-second zero-to-60 time in the Miata—but we won’t know for sure until we’ve tested the 124.
Here, that should help you.
