We are talking about Fiat here anyway, alfa has got its own staff and industries.
Well, we had rx8 taking fire or losing engines so what would you call it? My Toyota corolla had wrapped front rotors after 15000kms as well.
If you don't know what you're talking about please simply document yourself a bit more for you're doing the very same comment that anybody does about rotary engines. I live in europe, i drive italian cars when it happens, my tuner services italian cars whatsoever so maybe i have a bit broader experience than you have. I'm not trying to sound harsh but seriously...
God, i have 5 cars, 4 of which are not italian but when you see old Lancia Y hanging around with 390.000km on the first engine you start thinking about reliability and yes, that one was built by fiat.

Sorry mate, my bad..

Mate, when you look at the overall ratings in Europe, Fiat, Alfa or your Italian Cars are no where near the Japanese, both in owners satisfaction and reliability surveys...THIS IS A FACT...

Rather than your ranting (hands waving), you show me the opposite to what I say.

Not your own personal experience but what hundreds of owners say.

And you have had a big 5 cars, WOW, I have had close to 50!, mine and company.

Honda and Mazda rate even higher in Germany and beat the Germans at their own game, Mercedes and BMW and Audi.

Maybe you got me wrong, i have 5 cars at the moment all japanese or korean and one that is italian
I'm not saying that they are the best cars out there because they are not and we all know that but talking about reliability is a big nonsense for they are, in fact, reliable if you follow the right maintenance.

I read several good reviews there.

The point is that you're talking about overall car quality while i'm talking strictly about what could save chrysler -> smaller cars and smaller engines. It is a fact too that fiat's range of engines is the one that achieves the best emissions here. Another plus for chrysler.

If you start talking about luxury cars, sport sedans or this kind of car then we perfectly agree but for the city cars you're wrong unfortunately. Have a look at the old 1.0 fire engine, you couldn't even break it after cutting the distribution belts or run it without coolant for several time before killing it. The old fiat panda is a synonym for reliability here

Lets put it plain and simple. If Americans put forth effort to maintain correctly American cars, the drive train and chassis would probably equal the longevity of a German, Italian, or Japanese & Korean. We beat the snot outta them and and moan about how the quality is non-existant. My old Chevy S10 was an Arizona Truck with over 250K, got as a gift with 240K of that. It was in the blistering heat, worked to heck and still kept going strong! There have been numerous Chrysler products in the family and serious issues have been minimal. I can list them if anyone would like.

American work forces will not step foot in a factory without benefits the Chinese and Koreans (verification?) will work without. Germans automate nearly everything so there's not quite as much labor involved and thus less workforce to pay.

Perhaps an inside look at the quality of Fiat would give us some insight. Here's a nearly 7 min video of one factory: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZI_P1...eature=related a fantastic representation of the quality and automation of these mass produced cars. Just wish I could understand Italiana.

If you really want to see a Superb Man Plant, check out BMW's 3 Series Plant at Leipzig...

Unbelievable...

The Mazda Hofu Plant (Japan) was opened in Sept-1982, it's sophistication is between Fiats and BMW Leipzig Plant.

I was fortunate to tour the Hofu Plant 18 months after it was built and it is very WOW, there they make the Mazda 3 and 6.

BMW's is just another few steps forward again!

Bmw makes good cars if you don't count the last problems had by the series 3 diesel owners (turbo actuators going soutch every 2000km ) but what about Mercedes? you pay a lot of money for something that starts rattling after a year!
The point is still small engines and small cars so i think that this is a good solution.

Fiat 500 Abarth anyone? Likely repackaged as some Chrysler mini-car.
