Farewell to my RX-8, hello E92 (lots of pics)

lol, that's the whole story.... I have no idea what happened to my RX-8. I'm sure the insurance sold at the auction block.
I logged 758 miles in Europe. Made it from Vienna to the castle in about 4 hours.... it's about a 425 mile drive!
I have had the car back in the states for a week now. The odometer just hit 1400 miles last night. I did my first oil change last weekend!

They have wind socks along the road to tell you what direction the wind is blowing! lol
After I stopped accelerating I actually got 12.8mpg at 155mph. (pretty impressive)

Correction: 12.6 mpg @ 155 mph
sorry it's blurry
In comparison, my RX-8 averaged 16 mpg at normal speeds..... lol
The bimmer has the same size tank as the mazda (16 gallons)
In my normal driving the rx-8 would get 180-210 miles per tank.
In the same driving the bimmer gets 300-320 miles per tank.

Great story......
.... but you should never pop open the hood during an engine fire! You could have got yourself burned. Always try and put out the fire via the front air vents first.
.... still though, good story.

beautiful car and excellent story. my number one question is the reason for mazda not warranting the car because you were out of your factory warranty? its not like a fuel line to become loose on its own. that was almost VERY serious to your helath!

Great story!! thanks for sharing. Sucks about your RX-8 though; scary stuff.
Germany is quite possibly the best country to drive on (overall). I've been there a few times and it is just plain awesome. the roads are impeccable, the scenery is gorgeous, and the lack of a speed limit (in certain areas) is very welcome. I'm glad you got to check out the castle as well.
I believe Mercedes Benz has a similar program like the one you attended. At one point, Volvo had their own similar program also (not sure if that's still the case). Nonetheless, congratulations! You went from a great car to another great car, plus got a great vacation to boot.

Yea, opening the hood may not have been the best choice. When things are happening that fast, you don't have time to stop and think. My car was only on fire for 1 minute.
That car was my love and I wasn't going to sit and watch it burn.

State farm had an independent fire investigator look at the car after they picked it up from my house. In his statement he determined that a loose fuel line caused the fire and considering the motor was only a few days old, he believed that dealer was at fault. However, since the car was so badly burned, and because I had changed the coils myself after the car was at the dealer, he felt that it was best not to seek legal action against the dealer because they had "plausible deniability." (I worked on the car after the new motor was installed)
