"The 2005 Mitsubishi Evolution MR edition, scheduled to go on sale this fall, will add an active center differential, six-speed manual transmission, more horsepower, a lightweight aluminum roof and BBS forged aluminum wheels."
"The MR (Mitsubishi Racing) version of the EVO VIII is a Japanese-model only and is not offered for sale in the United States. The MR package includes:
* Quicker Response Bilstein Dampers
* Forged Aluminum Wheels
* Aluminum Roof Panel
* Improved 4WD system, ADC, & Super AYC Traction Control
* Sport ABS
* Improved Engine Torque Curve
* Improved Control at High Speed Limits
* Lowered Center of Gravity
* Refined Neutral Roll Characteristics
Lancer Evolution VIII MR uses slick-response Bilstein shocks for improved handling. The aluminum roof panel and other reductions in body weight have lowered the center of gravity to realize more natural roll characteristics. Detail improvements have also been made to Mitsubishi’s own electronic all-wheel drive, to the ACD 5 + Super AYC 6 traction control and to the Sports ABS systems. The Lancer Evolution VIII displayed at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show took the MR designation traditionally reserved for Mitsubishi Motors high-performance models and used first on the Galant GTO."
Anyone want to buy a WRX? :p

The thing so many of you don't get is people like Hanzo and I see these cars and think it's one of the most beautiful cars ever made. If that photo was of an OZ Edition Lancer we wouldn't feel the same way. What makes the car beautiful is what it's capable of, it probably the closest either of us will ever get to owning a "supercar". Some of us would rather own cars that drive like a supercar rather than one that just looks like one.

Wow so many negative comments on such a great car. I guess if I owned an RX-8, I'd be talking mess about the EVo's exterior to. Thats about the ONLY near questionable thing about the car that the RX-8 has a chance of possibly excelling in.
C'mon guys, gotta give respect where respect is due. The car costs little more than an RX-8 but whoops it BADLY in every performance category (which is what sports cars are mainly judged on). It's weak that so many people on here are trying to pick on its exterior looks, which really aren't that bad. It's "ricer" if it looks excessively wild, parts have no functionality, and the car is loud and slow. This car is NOT ricer at all.
I mean I could be driving this evo with no mods, full interior, groceries in the back, and 3 girls ridin along, line up next to a "sporty-looking" 8 at a light and put about 2 1/2 bus lengths on one. So who looks retarded now? Any questions?

Sometimes I think some 8 owners should have bought a crossfire or something. The evo is an absolute beast for a factory car and it is far from ugly. Its a sedan and it will never be a coupe like the 8, just accept that. It looks like a rally car and since it backs it up with performance in spades that is fine with me. Those older bug eyed WRX's are ugly, the EVO is not. For $33,000 you have one of the most capable cars you can find on the street.

I've got to go with the majority here - the EVO looks ricey with the diff't hood, spoiler, etc, but it's performance is outstanding. To me, this is the fox-body mustang argument. Sure you could have a fox that was fast as hell and would blow the doors off of tons of cars, but it's hard to justify driving an UGLY (opinion I know) economy car that ONLY has performance going for it.
BTW - who would pick up more chicks, a guy in a viper that had replaced the engine with a gutless 4 cyl, or some schnook in a tarted-up corolla-clone?

no ones denying that the evo isn"t a great machine...it's just that to some people performance isn't everything....you may be able to blow the doors off any car but how many chicks are gonna care about that?

She might be incredible in the sack with the lights out but would you want to be seen with her? (Yeah I know that's a sexist statement but it illustrates my point.)
The fact is what grabs people the most is a car's looks. Beauty is skin deep and performance is a nice secondary benefit. Look at the new BMW 5-series--everyone likes the new features but have a hard time getting over the new looks.
I think the EVO falls into the same pitfall. Outstanding performance with an ugly wrapper. The WRX Sti looks much better in comparison. Whether you choose to overlook the exterior and fall in love with its performance is a personal decision.

That is why the new BMWs are not selling well because of their looks, which to me is sad. If it is the ultimate "driving" machine why care what it looks like, the driving feel should come first.

If your looking for superior performance with ugly looks (IMHO) buy and evo...If you want great performance with amazing looks (IMHO) buy an RX8/350Z/G35/S2K...the point is that evo owners get all defensive when people say they don't like them soley based on looks (which is important to some/most people)...and the performance is only great if you plan on racing...what the RX8 lacks in speed it makes up for in looks, handleing, suspension and uniqueness. so it all depends what your looking for.

The evo looks very amazing to me. Not too flashy with big rims and such. Clean lines, and a very mean fascia.
I like the looks of the RX8, but imo the evo looks just as good if not better.
Looks is all subjective though, some people have told me that hey think the rx8 is ugly. Others joke that it looks like a *****.

haha....good points from lots of people....
The thing is.... even though I agree that the rx8 does look better than the evo, it'd be damn embarrasing to get your azz handed to me by 2 bus lengths by a 4 door "economy" car (which it ISN'T).
Sure, if u need to have a nice looking car to get girls, the rx8 may werk out fer you. But after an evo beats you to a pulp and leaves you cowering behind, the girl will want to get out and get in the evo....haha
Btw I currently drive an Rsx type s that runs a 14.3 1/4 mile and doesnt look too bad doing it (my subjective opinion).

i guess it is kind of a good thing that the evo doesnt appeal to everyone because the true enthusiasts go to the evo while the status seekers go to the bimmers (or rx8?).
