I know what I'm throwing money at once I get my hands on the CX-5. As retarded as it may seem slapping H&R springs on a CUV, it just seems abnormally awesome on a CX-5.

I've never considered getting an aftermarket intake for the 8, but I am for the CX-5 before it's even in my hands... Go figure.

full lap at the 'Ring

4wd model lo-power (150hp) and autostick

(sorry, only in italian)

http://www.alvolante.it/video/mazda_cx_5_Nurburgring

fantastic suspension set up, torquey motor...sometimes the AT -here used in manual mode-refuse to shiftdown (but in extreme condition).

very good lap IMHO....

9m 22.2s lap. That's quite good! What is even more impressive is watching the body roll, or lack of it, as it dives through the corner. Limited DSC interference too.

Thanks for the fantastic video.

What was your opinion of the guy driving? He looked rather skilled to me but I have never driven the 'ring'. Do most people not use helmets out there? That's scary

It's considered a toll highway so a helmet is not mandatory unless an open pit track day or a race is taking place.
The driver looks rather skilled, some of the turns have negative camber so the lines aren't always intuitive. This year i'll go there for the third time in a row but I'm still far from being a polished driver there, it takes at least 100 laps in a short time to "know" the 'ring... Spa and Mugello are much easier to learn

MrBTG is the man when it comes to the 'ring anyway

The club I run with (trackdays.de) mandates the use of a helmet though... I'd never drive a car around a track without full safety equipment. **** happens and flushing yourself out of this world isn't a smart move.

I noticed that he kept asking it to downshift to 3rd but the shift indicator would just flash at him, like it was trying to tell him in its overly polite Japanese way that "hey dumbsh!t, if I downshift now I'll over-rev and you'll be picking valve stems and piston rods out of your teeth..."

Most of the times where he tried to downshift, it would hit 5k rpm in a braking point (while still slowing down). Perhaps its programmed to float around low RPM's (3k?) because that's the optimum range where it provides more torque?

yes, at a certain point he said: "over 3200 rpm the logic of transmission doesn't allow downshifting...."

The video recommends that you do not drive your CX-5 through a slalom, 0-100-0 test, high speed corner test, or any hot laps while at home.

Good advice.

Steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car, nothing to worry about.
