EU All new Mazda CX-5 Here, Debut at Frankfurt Motorshow

All-New Mazda CX-5 World Premiere at 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show:

Compact Crossover SUV with Breakthrough SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY

• All-new compact crossover SUV, the first of Mazda’s new generation of vehicles
• Built around SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY: all-new chassis, body, engines and transmissions
• Targeting CO2 emissions of under 120g/km*
• Inaugurates new ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design theme

Leverkusen, 2 August 2011.
Mazda Motor Corporation will hold the world premiere of the all-new Mazda CX-5 compact crossover SUV at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show (September 13 through 25, 2011). The CX-5 is the first of a new generation of Mazda products that will adopt the full range of Mazda’s breakthrough SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and new design theme, ‘KODO - Soul of Motion’.
The Mazda CX-5 evolves Mazda’s hallmark fun-to-drive character and will be progressively introduced to global markets from early 2012. Developed around the full range of SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY — including all-new Mazda gasoline and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, body and chassis — the CX-5 delivers precise response and a high-quality ride matched with outstanding environmental and safety performance.
* Standard Power SKYACTIV-D 2.2 model with front-wheel-drive, SKYACTIV-MT manual transmission and i-stop

The engine line-up for the European specification CX-5 will include Mazda’s SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine and SKYACTIV-D 2.2 diesel engine available in Standard Power and High Power versions. Each engine has a record-breaking compression ratio of 14:1 for ideal efficiency. Mazda focused on achieving exceptional environmental performance for a compact SUV and targeted CO2 emissions of less than 120g/km for the SKYACTIV-D 2.2 engine model.*

The CX-5 is also the first production model to showcase Mazda’s new design theme, ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’, which was previewed with the Mazda SHINARI and Mazda MINAGI concept cars. Unique themes of KODO design include a prominent new front view with a bolder family face and dynamic styling that conveys a strong sense of vitality and agility.

Joining the CX-5 on Mazda’s stand at the Frankfurt show will be the facelifted Mazda3. It delivers lower CO2 emissions, more sporty and stable driving dynamics, updated interior and exterior design, and higher quality levels.
Officially titled the 64. Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA), the Frankfurt Motor Show will open to the press on September 13 and 14, and to the public from September 15 through 25, 2011. Mazda will hold a press conference on Tuesday, September 13 from 14:15 to 14:30 local time.

Still anxious to see some engine stats, since that's what is going to make or break the whole SKY initiative.

Many of the SUVs resemble. By the way, that's a sharp looking Nissan.

CX-5 reminds me of Subaru, BMW and a few others. I think it will stand out in some ways though.

I think it competes directly with the Subaru Forrester. It will be interesting to see how well it does up here where Subaru pretty much has a lock on the market. People have been gobbling up the CX-9 here so they are making in roads...

thank you, Charlie

i think that VW tiguan can resemble the main competitor here in EU, Nissan Qashqai starts from lower-spec engines (almost here in EU), FI 1.5 diesel and NA 1.6 petrol

Damn, beat me to it. The interior is very BMW and VW like. Check out the vents and the center console with the HVAC and what seems to look like an iDrive controller.

agree.

the "big smile" was an error, after all, looks good only on mx-5 FL (and the car was NOT designed for having it).

after a lot of sights DON'T like new 5,..... JDM oddball

this small SUV + skyactiv could help to recover DISASTROUS sales here in EU

it's just boring. in 1 or 2 years this lack-of-edgy styling will be as mundane as the current tribute it's replacing is. it's not bad, it's just boring. too bad. the smiley was ugly as sin but at least they were trying to stand out. like the bangle bmw's...they got enough crap for it even though sales were up so now all their cars look the same and have no flare to them.

the interior is ok, and the center stack is decidely german (even down to the 1 cupholder!), which isn't a bad thing imo.

now the ONLY thing that makes this car interesting is the skyactive.

the center thing exist in lot of cars these days, including Genesis I test drove couple weeks ago.

Hmmmmm I'm just interested in the actual "numbers." We seen enough of those pics already.

I hope Mazda (or any other quality after market parts manufacturer) provides an optional body colored lip. I have never been a fan of cars with black plastic bumper and sides. One of the main reasons why i think the X5 looks horrid unless it is an X5 M or 4.8i.

A little comparison. Minagi Concept model and production model is strikingly similar. Same lines but less chrome and painted trinkets. Very much like the Mazda MX-CrossSport concept and the CX-7.

standard power and hi-power. does that mean they are calling the gas one and the diesel the other or is meaning , as i read it, that there are 2 different power levels available for sky-d?

yes.

the highest spec engine is rated @ 175 hp (i've read it somewhere)

the actual 2.2 mounted into 3, 6, and cx-7 have different level of power

3 150 hp

6 129, 163 and 180 hp

cx-7 173 hp (with urea SCR catalyzer on, not into the other cars)
