Engine vs Motor

I say "tuh-mey-toh", you say "tuh-mah-toh"

I say "engine", you say "motor"

Engine: "A motor car (automobile) has a starter motor and motors to drive pumps (fuel, power steering, etc) – but the power plant that propels the car is called an engine."

Let the friendly discussions begin ...... please ......

I use the terms interchangeably. When I'm back home with my VERY southern family, I generally say motor. Otherwise I usually say engine.

I was raised that it's an internal combustion engine. Electric is a motor.

An engine is a device which produces kinetic energy from a fuel source; a motor is a device which produces kinetic energy from other forms of energy such as electricity, a flow of hydraulic fluid or compressed air.

Nah, we all know engines and motors are just glorified heat pumps.

Motor is typically more associated with electric's. 'Motivator' derivative and the electrial opposite of Generator.

Motor sounds very southern and only muscle car owners use that term.

But for electric stuff I say motor because it sounds appropriate (same thing as Easy said.)

Wait a minute, this is all messed up now. I've been putting "mota" oil in my engine instead of peanut oil.
