E46 M3 vs. E92 M3

The Supra's value didnt go way up untill the fast and furious, you could have picked up a nice 6 speed tt before that for under 30. The E46 stil costs 35+ for a nice one or around 30 and a bit lower for high mileage and potentially molested which really isnt that bad.

that movie came out in 1999, the supras were sold here til 98, you don't have data to support that claim, merely quoting (or guessing) that the movie made there worth rise.

However, I think a few other factors were far greater than F&F in causing the Supra prices to rise. For one, the Gran Turismo generation was growing up and spending money on cars. I think this has had a great impact on all the performance cars available nowadays. I'm not so sure the Evo, WRX/STI would have ever made it here had it not been for those games. Secondly, word started getting around about certain Supras, Marko's in Chicago, Ryan Woon's, and Titan. In short, the Supra had/has street cred and even moderate car enthusiasts were starting to realize what the Supra was capable of. This blew up even further as videos of these cars started popping up all over the internet.
The E46 M3 will NEVER be held in the same regard as the Supra. The only car in recent times that might have a shot is the Evo 8/9. But, even though they aren't exactly common they sold a hell of a lot better than the Supra ever did. So I think supply will keep them from increasing in value any time soon.

Anyhow, the last great M3 was the first one. The E36 and E46 were very good for their time, some would say the benchmark. However, they both lack that something special that the E30 had.

my point was you could get one fairly cheap, Ike made a much better point then I did regarding their value increase but still agreed with what I said about value. Has it really been 8 yrs since that movie....damn

The reason why the supra is holding its value is simply, supply and demand. Same as the 3rd gen rx7/ 2nd gen mr2/NSX/integra type R and the VW corrado.
The evo and wrx are not in as limited supply and were not part of the coupe craze in the ninties. They will hold value but not nearly as well as the others I've mentioned.

Both need to go on a diet, but none the less are still bad *** cars. The E92 looks really sweet, I want to feel a v8 that revs to 8,400 rpms. I was considering an E46 before I got my 8, I just liked the feel of the 8 more, but of course wish it had more go power.

E30 all the way. These 3 series M cars have the "Z" effect to them...each generation more and more bloated, and more and more away from their original roots.

The Supra is a joke, it can only go straight, and is a pig, F&F made that car and you only see kids lusting after that car.
Ike is right the E30 was the most awesome M3, it was a race car on the street and has a certain urgency to it when driving. The E46 follows it in second because it was closer to the E30 than the E36 was, the E92 has fallen victim to being a marketing tool and has been turned into a luxo tourer compared to previous M3s to appeal to a broader audience.

Actually, F&F seems to have made people think the way you do, likes it some sort of straight line specialist. They handled very well and had skidpad (often .95-.99) and slalom numbers that few cars today can match, and it did it while being a comfortable GT car that also happened to be a rocket in a straight line. That's why it beat out the FD, 300Z, Vette, 3000GT, and 911/968 in just about every comparo that was ever done.

Also, stock for stock the Supra had no problem beating the FD around various tracks. It wasn't always quicker, but it was universally believed to be the better all around car and more neutral handler.
