No. Top Gear was right... this generation of 3 Series is just car by the pound. "Yes, I need 15 feet of car." I'd take the E42.

Arrow Re:

I6 vs the new V8 with double vanos too. I liked all the previous model M3s but this new E92 is the best out of them. Course those old E30s are still quite light, but doesn't compare to the new one.

I like the look of the e46 better. Plus the v8 doesn't really belong in the m3. Maybe I'm just a traditionalist :-/

^agreed. The new look of the M3 is nice, but i still like the old look better, but who knows, maybe i just need to see one in person to change my mind.

the E30 still wins. As far as I am concerned that was the first and only proper m3.

Are you joking? The E46 will never be the "new Supra". Three letters. 2JZ. Look it up.
Besides, that ridiculous $18,000 kit only makes just 415rwhp on pump gas. Whoop dee doo.

Not slamming on M3. I love them. But don't compare them to a Supra in the horsepower department. Not even the same league.

Weight (mass) kills; even my e36 M3 was too heavy! E46 heavier still, e92 even heavier! BMW should know better!!

E30. The only M where the M stood for Motorsport. Now it stands for Marketing.

Its a win win situation..... if it was me.... i would wait until after the first year, if you opt to get the E92 M3. The lasts years of the E46 M3 were the best, very refined and bug free. Like the 8 the E46 M3 is tapped out from the factory, not many bolt on mods will help in the performance department.Best bolt on mod is that x pipe or center pipe, gains a few Hp for the best buck. But like the 8, Forced induction is the only way to go,if you REALLY want to go fast.

Like i said before, its awin / win situation.... both are sexy, both are status cars, both are exceptional handlers , there very good all around cars. Looks, speed, handeling.... what more can you ask for?

The M cars have gone further away from true performance and more towards performance/luxury each successive generation.

I agree the E30 is the only REAL M

But I have a serious soft spot for the E36... the chasis on that car is outstanding, it looks amazing (for its time) and out drove cars with 3X the price tag when it was on the market. I almost bought one instead of my rx8!

Have you followed their progress at all? That kit makes 500 wheel horses on pump gas at 5lbs of boost, and they made 670 at 13lbs of boost, again on what I believe pump gas though I could be wrong. All of that on the STOCK motor and STOCK tranny, so while it may not be the new Supra yet, it could very well be on its way.

the supra held its value, even now the tt versions are 45k and up. the e46 cannot make that claim

I choose E46 just because I think it looks much better.
