Deedubbs mini bike build-up

A friend of mine is giving me his old mini taco bike. It was a failed project for him, he no longer has time to work on it, so i'm taking it off his hands. Has anyone ever worked or owned one? I know the basic functionality of it. I'm looking for some after market resources. Thanks in advance!

yes it is pitiful..but they were very famous in the early 60's-70's..aka Pit bike, used by race car teams to jet around the track...These now retail for 600-800 brand new and im getting it free so you really cant beat that with a bat.. When hooked up and modified they can go 30 mph, btw these are 4 stroke edger motors briggs and stratton.

Bryan, how much time do u have on ur hands? I've got a pretty good scar from falling off my buddy's pocket bike while doing tricks.

i've ate it pretty bad when i was trying to do wheelies on my goped. Lets see, I fractured my index finger bone, dislocated my left arm, and lost a finger nail...that hurt pretty bad...the worse part was having to go to the hospital to have them poke a piping red hot needle through my finger nail to release all that blood that made my finger swell up 2 time's its normal size! Other than that its fun!

I had a mini taco when I was 9 years old (1970), it was a blast back then! I really did not have to much work to it, but my Dad probably did!

I had a similar mini bike when i was 6 - back in 1970. The mods are straight forward, but the chassis will be the limiting factor.
The bike probably has a centrifugal clutch, a torque converter will reduce power loss and can be found online http://www.ruppbikes.com/ruppbikes.htm

The muffler should be changed to a straight pipe - it'll sound like an angry old vw bug ; ) Adjusting the carb may be necessary. An extreme mod would be to pop in a bigger lawnmower engine or even a small motorcycle engine, something like a 50 to 90cc motor will make the thing fast (relatively) but the chassis is going to scare the crap out of you when you hit 45mph.

I love just about anything on two wheels : ) I picked up a ZX14 today - now that is a fast bike - 0 to 60 in 2.7 seconds, 186 top speed (electronically limited). 9 second quarter mile stock. : p

Cheers,

Alex

blue - I'm still breaking it in - I did get it to 130mph just for kicks - on one wheel, but I really need to take it easy for the next 500mi. It dos 90mph at 4500rpm so I don't have to go slow or anything ; )

The bike is very civilized until you hit 5500rpm then it takes off. My bandit is much more unruly, definitely a hooligan compared to the ZX14.

My wife is so cool to understand that I need two bikes and the RX8.

I am one lucky bastard.....
