Can't get a GT with manual...probably the only thing preventing me from buying one. And the 2 things 99.5% of American drivers hate...diesel and MT...would lead me to believe the diesel GT won't be available in manual either.

That's what doesn't make any sense.

The cars are painted before they have the wiring harnesses, engines, transmissions, interiors, and various electronic controllers into them.
How hard is it to push a red body shell into the line that puts manual transmissions into it?

Shove a red one through, send it to Colorado, and make a sale.

Oh well.
This just means I will have a lot more money available when the Alfa Romeo 4C hits the US late next year. Sucks to be Mazda.

BC.

Mazda says the CX-5 (AWD AT) runs Laguna Seca 3 seconds faster than the 2.0 SkyActiv Mazda3... No time slips to prove it though. Believable?

I know, it's pretty stupid.

Have the money, know what I (we) need, but we can't get it cuz we have some fat *** working in the corporate said no while everyone else on earth can get one without all the hassle ...

I wonder if I can import one from Canada ? I assume I could since 99% of the stuff are the same ?

Which option?
FWD manual in red, white, or blue? Yes, they have it.
AWD Manual? No, they don't.

That one seems to be a UK only option, from the few madza.countries websites I've visited.

It's a FWD Touring CX-5 I believe. Both using the same engine and transmission, the CX-5 has a 250-350lb premium on the Mazda3 SA. Both uses a MacPherson front and multilink rear, though the CX-5's chassis is heavily revised obviously.

I'm still question THREE WHOPPING SECONDS at Laguna Seca. A few tenths, okay, but three is a damn lot at Laguna Seca. There are too many uphill and high speed sections to justify the dramatic difference in lap time. For sure the CX-5 is slower than the Mazda3 in a straight line, so that makes it even harder to believe the CX-5 can make up lost time through corners as heavier and taller car.

Coworker has it high on her list for replacement cars for the last gen Civic hybrid. Drove in that thing for lunch recently and it isnt very good. The engine shudders when going off and shudders going on. She also gets mediocre mileage in it.

Good riddance Civic - hello CX-5.

I agree..the car doesn't suffer of "pumping rear end" like many SUVs and CUVs

here in Italy we call that situation "washing machine effect"

Read the Automobile article on the CX-5. A loaded AWD 6AT is joining their long-term fleet. Hope it fares well.

My coworker drove it and she said it felt underpowered and uncomfortable in the rear. This from someone who currently drives the slug-like last generation Honda Civic Hybrid. Obviously not a car person.

The long tube headers won't fit in the existing chassis without chassis modifications that would require full government re-certification, crash testing, etc... So Mazda dropped the compression to 12:1 rather than 13:1 (all of this is US of course). The header design makes that much of a difference.
