CX-5 Pointing Towards Global Sales Success for Mazda
http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...for-mazda.html
VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – May 22, 2012:
Mazda’s All-New CX-5 has shot to the top of the medium SUV sales charts in Australia and this sales success is being mirrored across the globe.
In its first two months on sale, Australian Mazda dealers sold over 2,800 CX-5s making it Australia’s best-selling medium SUV over the March and April period.
And with May now entering its final selling week, Mazda Australia has confirmed that CX-5 demand remains high.
“We’re continuing to see strong showroom traffic across the whole Mazda range and even with it being a brand new nameplate customers are reacting extremely well to CX-5. As a result, customers are driving home CX-5s in numbers never before seen for a Mazda SUV,” said Mazda Australia national sales manager Vinesh Bhindi.
The story in Japan is equally impressive with CX-5 orders totaling approximately 16,000 since its mid-February launch. With the annual CX-5 sales target for Japan initially set at 12,000, the level of interest so far has well and truly surpassed expectations.
Of the 16,000 CX-5’s already sold in Japan, diesel models are being snapped up like never before. Japanese CX-5 preference currently leans strongly in the favour of diesel with it making up about 80 percent of the model mix.
Russia leads the way for CX-5 sales in Europe with over 7,500 orders since its February launch. Germany follows closely behind although it should be noted that orders in excess of 5,000 have been achieved in just over one month.
European media review has also been favourable with several leading motoring publications vouching for the quality of CX-5 and placing it ahead of key SUV competitors.
North America was always going to be a key market for CX-5 and sales so far have proved this to be correct. In less than three months on sale, more than 10,000 CX-5s have been sold across the USA and Canada.
The CX-5 is shaping up to be another worldwide phenomenon for Mazda.

Hopefully Mazda NAO will correct their stupidity, and offer the American drivers who want the CX-5 with a manual to be able to get one in either red, white, or blue, like every other country, either in diesel or gas, when the diesels arrive.
I sent an email to Mazda NAO, and they basically said that American drivers just don't want their manual cars to have color, and until I can somehow increase US demand for colors vehicles with manuals, they aren't going to change the way the CX-5 is sold here in the US.
They also said no to having one of their red manuals for the Canadian market get sold to me here in the US dealer, even though the safety and emissions standards are nearly identical, if they aren't identical.
Idiots.
How exactly am I supposed to raise US demand for red and blue cars when I'm only one consumer?
If they don't sell the CX-5 in either gas or diesel in a manual, in either red or blue, they aren't getting my business, which they have clearly stated they don't want.

Hmm. I noticed the manual color options as well. I wonder if you go to a dealer if they can order the combination you want. I expect there will still be resistance, but white MT AWD diesel is my preferred pick, and shouldn't exist.
With the AT being as good as it is though, I could see myself wavering on that point, and then it all becomes possible.

Traffic in the NYC area is a good argument
I'd do it, and have a dealer anxious for my business, but until my house finishes with the selling process, I can't touch my credit. I indeed will be asking about a pre-order diesel in the spec I want. Doubt I will end up with a white one. My favorite of the colors, but my wife is probably going to overrule me with one of the blues. Which aren't bad either, so I doubt I will argue.

OT: i've tested an autostick CX5 diesel (full power AWD).
Nice car, smooth but fast change of gears, very toquey at low RPMs...a lot better than the auto gasoline car.....A LOT

Im ok with it, my father drove my 8 a few times, his mt skill is a bit rusty cuz the last time he drove one was like 20 something years ago.
But my father is 63 already and health is going kinda downhill so i dont know...
Wife > us
Even gf > us
All the time.
Thats why i prefer to stay single... At least for another year or 2 lol
Consider the diesel version has twin turbo that produces torque higher than a cayman. Yea, it will be better than the gasoline version.
If they put the twin turbo om the gas version.... It will kill the mpg so nevermind
A fully loaded cx5 with awd gets 31 hwy, epa numbers are always off so i would say real life should be around 24 and 33?
Diesel will be much higher but it also cost more. Maybe 28/36?
Say waaaaaattttt? :-)

Other estimates were putting the diesel in the 40s or 50s. From the releases regarding the Japan sales numbers, it appears the diesel would cost maybe 2-3k more than the equivalent gas.

The gasoline version isn't so bad, especially in manual mode, though I'm guessing people here (sports car forum) have higher expectations than the average point-a-to-b people.
The diesel sounds neat, but isn't it a pain to find fuel sometimes? Granted I've never really looked for diesel-carrying gas stations, but I don't remember seeing it available at most of the ones I usually stop at. I'd hate to be terrified on long trips that I'd have trouble finding diesel fuel
Either way, I'm hoping to have one sooner or later, as I really loved my test drives. I'm just having trouble breaking the 8 addiction, lol...

I don't think I've seen a station without diesel in quite some time, and even if so, my new commute is 98% highway, and highway means trucks, which means diesel. I don't expect to have trouble finding fuel.
I expect Fuelly is also mostly gas engines. Specifically interested in the diesel, and the specific numbers for each (MT vs AT, FWD vs AWD). The gas appeals to me as a commuter to a degree, but the mileage, power, and torque increase for the diesel makes it vastly preferred to me.

I would not be surprised at all to see them postpone the launch, again because of capacity, with the CX-5 selling/manufacturing so well, why would they take diesels away from other markets to help the US?, when the US is not a known diesel market?....they won't.
Or I could be totally wrong..
As for color options, again, when this models popularity/demand slows (and it will) you will see a larger option range.

FUEL ECONOMY IS IMPRESSIVE. ...guarantee...
KICKS *** TO ALL THE VW,HYUNDAI OR WHATEVER YOU WANT.
in a comparo of Autobild (Germany Magazine) have won against: Tiguan, Subaru XV and other competitors....
Maybe just special low- emission version of X1 (called Efficent Dynamics which have some important differences to standard) is marginal better....
in a test in an italian Magazine Quattroruote a pre-production version of 2WD 150 HP MT CX5 have done 5L/100 km at 100 Km/h constant speed (REALLY tested ,data collected with specific instruments, not lies...here in Italy we are serious about fuel economy)

The other two dealers called the Regional Mazda Rep, and talked to him, and they both got the same no. One went as far as asking if they could get a Canadian Vehicle instead, and swap the needed computers, and they really got an earful.
Then I sent an email string to Mazda NA, and I would be happy to share that with you if you ever wanted a good laugh at their response. I had fun at the end quoting their tag line from their commercial.
Here, i'll even quote the section from my email, because it sums up my feelings about this whole pile of crap:

I pulled those words from one of your commercials, available right on the Mazda USA website. The ad talks about how you're a car company that builds cars for the discerning few drivers, like myself, as I own a 2011 Mazda RX-8 Sport. Or are your planning committees indicating to the world that Canadian car owners are more discerning than American car owners?
With the AT being as good as it is though, I could see myself wavering on that point, and then it all becomes possible.
I really want a Touring with a manual, but that's just asking for too much. We much prefer that rear seat setup, over the doesn't fold nearly as flat, doesn't have the center armrest, and doesn't have the nifty trunk releases to fold down the rear seat in the Sport.
Oh, and you can get AWD manuals in the UK. They are all diesels, but Mazda has the transmission technology. Just another thing they are refusing to give to other markets.

wow, that sucks. I know it might not make sense for them to just build a whole bunch of MT CX-5 to the States, but why can't they take a "special" order?
Isn't the tune and everything the same thing ? I'm sure the difference between a GT and a sport is the fancy Electronic stuff stuff they have here and there.
So much for "if it's not worth driving, it's not worth building."
Remember that "GOD FORBID 4 SPEED AUTOMATIC DECELERATE TRANSMISSION" ? they had the ***** to make that garbage to go with RX-8, but now they're being a ***** about selling CX-5 MT in the states. FAILED.
Global Success ... credit goes to Mazda Japan, some engineers including those working in MNAO. NOT the fat asses working in MNAO Corporate.
