Even if the STI does come with a shitty stock tune like the 07s did, I know it's running a tried and true drive train (as outdated and simple as it is). Plus, if I were to spend that much cash on a 4 door sedan, might as well make it a 5 door.

The Evo still looks like what it is: a tarted-up econobox with go fast parts.
The RX-8, on the other hand, is a purpose built GT and looks the part...like, about 1,000,000 times better looking than the Evo.
If only we could get a hot 2 liter turbo 4 and AWD in the 8, then we'd really have something!

a Lancer (regular version) is a stripped down version of the l337 Evolution ?
You gotta understand Mitsubishi is NOT a huge company like Toyota.
Toyota can afford to have like 20 different body for all different kinds of buyers.
Mitsubishi on the other hand, can only afford to have a few.
So what they can do is, Build a super car body then *strip it down* with whack options to cover the lower end buyers.

Lol? Buy a new RX8 and add a turbo, tune, all the bolt ons necessary with it and the problems that come with it VS a factory turbo that will easily make over 300 WHP with a couple bolt ons?
The X is all aluminum, but Mitsubishi obviously knew that tuners would get as much power out of it as possible so they beefed it up. Read up on it, they did an incredible job making it out-of-the box ready to make incredible gains (It runs RICH).
The X does not look like a cheap econobox, and no it does not look the same as the GTS. Even the untrained eye can tell the difference, the X is way more aggressive looking. Please, go DRIVE one and tell me that the X sucks, or ANY evo sucks for that matter.
Previous DSM's had some problems but that was because many owners modded the hell out of them. Besides the X isn't a 4G, its a 4B. The only problems I have right now for a first model year car is the stupid factory tune they gave us, but I got a FREE reflash from mitsubishi fixing the power uptop.

You should get a cone air filter and make your own heat shield....yields some decent gains and you can hear your factory BoV. Or you can get some of the intakes out now =P Lean out the tune a bit..

but I cant say for the engine. you might want to open it up after a while of crazy power. Cuz if you have seen HKS's picture about the engine. eww, it looks gross.

FWIW, I think the Evo rocks hard in terms of the engine & tricky suspension.
It's just stone cold fugly sitting next to the RX-8. Not having a 6 speed is also lame...I don't care if it saves a shift on the 1/4 mile.
My next car will probably be either an Evo or a 135i, so there you have it. Going fast matters more than looking good.

Couldn't do it. I've had a terrific experience with my WRX and Subaru has won my trust. Especially after seeing a few of my friends and family having their various DSM models bite the dust.
Even if the STI does come with a shitty stock tune like the 07s did, I know it's running a tried and true drive train (as outdated and simple as it is). Plus, if I were to spend that much cash on a 4 door sedan, might as well make it a 5 door.

You may be able to justify the STI with visions of better reliabilty of greater practicaility, but I can't no matter how hard I try. Plus, my Evo has been troublefree even with pushing over 300whp. Lastly, don't equate an Evo to a DSM, they're totally different beasts. The biggest different bein that DSMs were all built in the US and had some known issues due to the sourcing of some poor quality parts. That's simply not an issue with the Evo.

The only conclusion I can come to is that Subaru more or less just said " to hell with battling the EVO, lets make an alternative that's quieter, smoother, more friendly, offers great reliability, yet is still fast. Subaru has gone soft, and I can't say I blame them, but one would hope they'd come back with a new STI in the future, a limited trim that can compete. The new STI is a car my dad would buy and own. The Evo X is not.
As much as the new STI gets criticized by enthusiasts, it has simply become the roomy daily driver hatchback that anyone who drives manual can own, and a car that can appeal to more of a general consumer market who trust Subaru over Mistsubishi in reliability, which lets face it, is made up of less enthusiastic car lovers like ourselves.
Ashame for me really, because the very thing I disliked about my 04 STI was the very things it has now become. I never could get into it as a pure fun enthusiast car. That was always saved for My RX8 and S2000, which are the cars I'm the most enthusiastic about. The STI was a go fast daily winter beater for me, much like my Speed 6 is now. I happen to love the new STI, but I understand. If I was into these cars like I am my S2000, I'd definitely dislike it. Ashame I can't afford one.

I'll be installing my short ram intake, high flow cat, downpipe, and exhaust in the next couple days.
