I don't know really what's available over the pond, but what does the UK have around 10-15K pounds that's so great?

Uh oh, BlueEyes is going to hit you with a nice list shortly. There are quite a few very nice cars(mostly hatches) that are quick and handle nicely for a reasonable amount of money.

So my choice is to be doomed driving all the crappy American vehicles or driving the supposed great vehicles of the UK but having snaggle teeth like Austin Powers?

well hopefully he does, because I haven't found anything that'd be worth comparing to either the Mustang or Solstice for the same price. And as far as style goes....I know the brits have an odd sense of it sometimes, but I see nothing spectacular over there short of $50k+.

yah i guess america is the land of football... but we're the only ignorant bunch that doesnt use the metric system, play soccer, waterpolo, f1 racing, or wrc.

i think the assumptions that clarkson made are correct assumptions and u can see those stereotypes all over america.

have u ever driven the C6 vette? have u driven the new zo6? then how do u know its the best sports car? if u havent then clarkson has MORE credibility then u do because he has actually BEEN to America, and is writing the article from America.

hmm that's funny, I use the metric system every day, have seen plenty of soccer (From midget leagues to professional), waterpolo??? who the hell cares about that, You can watch ferrari1 racing and wrc on TV occasionally. Few care for F1 because of its one-sided-ness, though I would like to see more wrc. Stereotypes are for the ignorant to buy into.

name 10 big soccer players playing in the american league right now then? if u can i commend you... waterpolo, well i wouldnt expect people from south carolina to know about it, but the rest of europe and asia play it and its an olympic sport. few care for f1? maybe where u live my friend or ur small world.

ferrari1 racing? its formula. and its not so "one-sided-ness" nemore. ferrari isnt even in the running for the construction championship anymore.

you're ignorant if you dont think stereotypes are all around us everyday, its a harsh reality.

Can't name 10 players because I'm not a soccer fan. I'm in the military, so I currently reside in South Carolina, mister elitist. Of course stereotypes are everywhere, because people like you perpetuate them. What's with the water polo?? I've got nothing against it, but come on, it'll never be popular. Curling is an Olympic sport, but no one cares about that either. F1 is growing in popularity in the US, but it'll plateau at a decidedly lower popularity than most other "mainstream" sports. Probably somewhere below the PGA. F1 is almost as exciting as Nascar, which is to say ... not very.

Why don't we get back on topic here, instead of insinuating personal stupidity based on where I live. Oh hey another stereotype...

Its a free world, everyone has their own subjective views and is free to express them.
I guess why I like Jeremy Clarkson very much is that my views and his kinda match, and his analogies are hilarious, and Im not even British.

I think he exaggerates some of the bad points of the Mustang, but thats what he does, but still, the basic point of the message is there, its bad.

He did say he feels like buying the Mustang, thats a great compliment IMHO.

Me too, Im planning to import 1 in a couple of months.
Is it a good car? Maybe... not.
Will it handle well? Definitely nope.
So why buy it? Well, I like the image, its -THE- Muscle car, nothing says American quite like a Mustang... maybe a Hummer yes, but I dont like SUVs. I think Jeremy already highlights all the bad parts of it... a crappy V8 that puts out a meager 300hp, but who cares... its a Mustang, and the fact that it is really cheap really helps your decision making too.

Haha, I don't know if Hummer says "American" so much as it says "douche bag" or "shitty driver" :p

but we're the only ignorant bunch that doesnt use the metric system, play soccer, waterpolo, f1 racing, or wrc.
Hey, we don’t call them ignorant because they don’t play football…what’s a foolish statement. We are ignorant because we don’t do what they do or what they like to do, or what they think is good?

How ignorant is that…to say such a thing??? Not a personal attack…don’t get me wrong, but the basis of your opinion is flawed in my opinion.

i think the assumptions that clarkson made are correct assumptions and u can see those stereotypes all over america.
Culture, we have a HUGE nation compared to a lot of the European countries out there so our needs are different. If we did not have a love of sports cars…of power, then we would have never made the Camaro, Corvette, Mustang, Cobra, Viper, Seleen S7, GT40, Ford GT, Cuda, etc etc etc etc etc

The list goes on and on, just because we don’t build them like they do does not mean we can’t…just that we don’t desire to.

It's a known FACT, that when we have put our mind to it...we kick their butts with cars like the Cobra, GT40, Corvette, and Viper...at their own game, so Mr. Clarkson wake up and smell reality.

have u ever driven the C6 vette? have u driven the new zo6? then how do u know its the best sports car? if u havent then clarkson has MORE credibility then u do because he has actually BEEN to America, and is writing the article from America.
Listen, I’ve driven (on a short track) a standard 2004 Vette, and driven a Z06 from 2005 and if those cars where so good in basically everything “sport”….that makes a sports car, then I can only image what the new Z06 with 505HP can do.

For it’s price (for the love of GOD…don’t miss this important part of the statement), the Z06 has NO COMPETITION in my opinion. For $65,000 (per MT…probably more like 70K) the Z06 can do a lot more than any other car on the market at it’s price range.

So, to me…bang for your buck is how I live by it seems, lol, the Vette is hands down the KING of sports cars (taking price into consideration).

If money does not matter…ohhhh baby, I’d take the V10 Lambo…that thing looks like it’s from the future, SO SEXY!!!!

you're ignorant if you dont think stereotypes are all around us everyday, its a harsh reality.
Hello, are you listening to yourself? Your statements are based on stereotypes and you seem to be blind to them. Sorry...I don't want to be harsh, but I don't understand how your missing your own bias?

I agree, what’s up with water polo…so what if we don’t like it, that does not make us ignorant for it. If it did…then Europe is just as ignorant for not liking American football.

We are different people, different culture…with different experiences and needs, our desires match those things we desire the most. Are we ignorant because we try to match what we need or desire?

By the way, I know gas (Petrol) is twice as expensive in their nations...but is it fair for me to say they are ignorant because they drive boxes on wheels with little to no space and looks that inspire nothing but nausea?

NO…it’s the needs they have and style they prefer, they are no more ignorant because of it than we are by building our types of sports cars.

I know American car companies have done a nasty job in regards to quality for a long time…we deserve the criticisms, but the way Clarkson speaks as if everything we have ever built did not match “their” view of a sports car so he deems them as inferior products…meanwhile, on the track we have been proven many times over.

Wake up Mr. Clarkson…the sports car world is more than just your taste, but you’re a funny guy and I’ll just remember from now on that your opinions are skewed in regards to American sports cars. But your RX8 review is right on the money...wink wink...lol.

I like the Britz, but Clarkson seems to have been born straight out of the revolutionary war or something with his views of our sports cars. Wake up…we are friends now and have been for a long long time.

Friend, for that price the Mustang is pretty much the fastest car on the road...with it's meger 300HP. The only cars faster are much lighter or have an extra 100HP.

While...for the record, I don't trust Ford with that 300HP number...the power per weight ratio does not match up with the times the Mustang gets, but maybe that old style axle really does wonders.

The new mustang is not as good as American mag's make it out to be, but it's not as bad as Clarkson makes it out to be either.

I WELCOME THE RETURN OF THE CAMARO!!!

I agree... its like he had some sort of vendetta against the Mustang to the point where it clouded his better judgement and reasoning skills

Yes, thanks TODreamer your comment sums up how I feel perfectly, he has some issue with American cars that's for sure.

(it "seems" he does since I don't know the guy personally nor can I read his inner thoughts, but based on what comes out of his mouth/mind...we can get a pretty good picture)

Let's be fair here...if someone in the US said something like that, NATO would lead the lynch mob...lol

I know he is a funny guy and he has the right to his opinion, as I do...my opinion is he has a bias against US sports cars...send that to Mr. Clarkson...I know we would all welcome him here at the rx8club.

But I guess I could just be an ignorant American (and I was not even born here…lol, that’s how ignorant I am) lol :p :D

I've lived in the UK and I can tell you that people in the UK have a bias against almost everything that comes out of the USA.

You see, it is the self-righteousness of the American people that makes us look like ******* to the rest of the people in the world.

But Jeremy is right, American sportscars are *****. The RX-8 tops any sportscar produced by the big 3 for less than 30K.

At my last trip to the track, an english driving instructor in his 50's told me that "when you are too old to race, you buy a corvette." The instructor was driving an E36 ///M3.

fifth gear
What channel...what time?

I'll stop commenting...lol, some people just have a stick up their butt...I guess they say the same about us. Lucky for me...I treat people on a one on one basis and love the "sport" in sports cars from all over the world.

It's the FUN to drive and looks that do it, but some people will forever be haters....oh well.
