The answer then is I think no.. Lets remember also that 1870's - 1960's is alot longer than 1960's - 2005. Also, there were other civil rights atrocities/violations that occurred after the civil war committed under the American flag.

Would the NAACP be protesting as hard against the U.S. Flag as they do against the Confederate Flag?

Our entire government , technologies and legacy of an empire who conqured the known world(of the time) and slaughtered and enslaved countless people as the norm. Our government was based off of Roman republic principles (and Greek) our roads are the size of 4 horse's asses as defined by roman roadways, we drive on the Right side of the road as the romans did... We also have the Pyramid on or dollar bill which historians believe were constructed by slave labor.. Yeah, I see how we should be shameful of one flag and ignore the rest.... :p

So if the KKK NEVER used the Confederate Flag as their symbol - and ALWAYS used the U.S. Flag instead - the NAACP woulds till call the Confedeate Flag an evil reminder of what happened in the past?

Businesses deal in reality.
Having a confederate flag being "paid for" by your company is NOT good marketing. No matter how you may pull out the history books, the end result is the same. To the general population, the Confederate flag means bad things. Thats it, done deal.
I just think the Confederate flag waving is ridiculous because its over and done with. And I can actually trace my family tree back to Jefferson Davis, president of the whole freakin' thing.

its just that Chrysler wont link any advertising of the 06 charger to the movie
My retired dad collects cars and owns a General Lee, almost pristine right down to the CB radio, welded doors, and the sunvisors signed by the cast. He was offering the local megaplex it's use to rope it off in the lobby and they shot him down because of this production company vs. Chrysler rift. Theater management said they would have LOVED to have it but corporate said no. Some people even find the dixie horn offensive. Fercryinoutloud it's just a car! They had no prob with the Starsky and Hutch Ford Gran Torino though.

Judging by the level of PC hyper-sensitivity these days, I'm honestly surprised they used a replica of the original car at all. I was expecting them to move the setting to Kentucky, paint the car blue with a union flag, and call it the General Grant.
And let's stop projecting the KKK's views onto the southerners who fought in the civil war. The KKK borrowed their symbol just like Hitler borrowed an ancient greek symbol for his flag. You wouldn't call the ancient greeks ***** unless you're really dense.

I don't find any of the symbols offensive. Swastika, Confederate Flag, whatever. To me they are just historical symbols. I do have a problem with the folks that follow the old ways linked to those symbols and keep the controversy about them going. If we had no KKK or ****'s today I would hope that there would be no hatred of those symbols. Everyone should know what those symbols meant and know what they look like. The problems lie with the people that use those symbols as their banner and do horrible things under them. Whether Chrysler wants to use the car with that symbol on it or not is their decision, and I think they did what they had to do in order to keep the company from being crushed by the public, media, government, etc. I'd do the same if it were me due to the current tension between people groups around the world, it is seen as offensive to some, and that is all that matters in this case.

Hmm, is it really that bad for Chrysler? Let's see...
- The Dukes of Hazzard movie is about a bunch of dumb rednecks
- Chrysler's current ad campaign already features dumb rednecks ("That thang gotta Hemi?")
- From what I have observed, most hardcore Chrysler fans are.... well, you get the idea. :p

Well, the KKK usually burns a cross at their rallies so we'd better not have any more crosses publicly displayed.
BTW, the Swastika was for several thousand years a symbol of good luck and peace. Then because some psycho used it as his "battle flag" it became forever known as a symbol of evil.
I don't want to hear any BS about "Southern" racism in the media either. I've been in many Northern cities, and they have plenty of segregation and racism. It's always been there since folks began to immigrate to the US.

They might, simply because it's a reminder of the civil war and the NAACP are whiney crybabies when they feel there is the slightest affront to thier cause.

I think they made the right choice...at least they can avoid the hassle that would come by supporting the movie.
Note: KKK can claim they are Christian all they want...when they preach hate, it shows their true faith.
Let's get this topic back on track...have you all seen Jessica Simpson dressed up as Daisy?
DANNGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!! Ohhhh mama.... :D
Note: Maybe I was a innocent kid but I use to watch the show all the time, along with the Fall Guy, A-Team, Knight Rider....lol...all those shows that are ridiculous when you watch them today...lol

I grew up in Jefferson Parish. Lived there all my life until 4 years ago and my Uncle (very very close friend of the family) has been the sherrif there for nearly 30 years. I've never experienced any racism there.

I'm black--so perhaps you got a different experience than I did. You couldn't pay me to live in that the New Orleans area--besides the inherent racism, segregation, and corruption--the region's economy is not exactly the most vibrant.
I could not stand the site of J.P. police cars--I know too many people that had been profiled and harrassed by those a--holes.

I'll come out and say it... Being black and being asian is completely and totally different when it comes to racism. Not saying that both races don't get subjected to racism, but IME it's on a whole different level and isn't even a fair comparison.
What was this thread about again?
