So how do you accelerate/coast with the cruise - I'd imagine it would be with a twist of the stalk, but I'd also imagine doing that would cause you to accidentally move the stalk and activate the signals.

Yellow is a great color for the GTO. I think it's a very nice looking car in today's age of designers wearing rice colored glasses.

its been there for awhile, my 94 trans am had it. its a little strange by the look but its pretty practical. Its just alittle weird to adapt to not using your thumbs to control it like in the 8.

Sorry I'd never take a close look at a GTO before so my first real impression is that it looks very alike with the Holden Monaro. Are they similar in performance and handling???

They are similiar in that they are basically the same car. Take the Holden, convert it for the US, and slap on some Pontiac/GTO badging.

Hey tiggerlee - check this out... Another yellow jacket for ya!
A Texas owner has one of the sharpest GTO's around.
It's a full Monaro conversion. If he's not already, I'd say he's also damn close to being a professional photographer. He took all these shots. I think this looks incredible.

The black Drift R's w/ polished rim really complement the YJ. I also like the spoilerless look, and the blacked out rear bumper insert. Should give you some ideas on what's possible...

Dude, yaxinator, where can I get those rims. They would look perfect on my car! Are they 18 or 17? Do you have a link?

Beautiful car! Yeah I saw this one in the "Yellow Jacket" thread on the ls1gtoforums. After I saw that one I began contemplating removing the rear spoiler. It's a nice clean look imo.

Hey Yax, I've been considering removing the spoiiler on mine. What approx. did you have to pay to have the trunk lid redone after the spoiler delete?

Ah yeah I'm pretty sure he already knew that, hence the underscore.

Maybe just once you should try to comprehend the subject matter of the posts your responding to.

They are ROH Drift R's in 18x8 front, 18x9 rear, and yes, they're nice. Made in Australia. Not insanely expensive either... around $225 to $250 a wheel I think.

Do they have a website? I can't really find a vendor...

Exterior look wise, I think the RX-8 looks better and more exotic.

Handling, it appears that goes to the RX-8 as well.

Interior wise, the both look nice, so I call that a draw. So, major factors left is straight line 0-60/quarter mile speed, price, and gas.

Hmmmm…. How much gas are you really saving? I saw 16/21 listed for the gas mileage on the Auto (the RX-8 Auto has that beat and 17/25 on the manual (that’s about the same as the RX-8 manual). So the RX-8 gas spec appears to have the GTO beat, though by a small margin. There have been some bad apple RX-8, but overall a lot of RX-8 people and including myself have got gas mileage in 19/20mpg range (city and highway). There appears that taking care of the oil, maybe changing the oil filter, certain oil additives (pre-mix, MMO, maybe even Duralube), depending on octane level of gas or who you buy gas from, engine fan mod, ECU mods, air intake mods, 2nd oil cooler, etc… are also very helpful. So gas wise, the GTO does not appear to do any better. I will call that a draw too.

Price wise, it appears that the Pontiac GTO is a little bit more expensive, but its close and depends on the options so I’ll call that a draw too (though you could argue that the RX-8 wins there).

That leaves the HP. 400 HP, but on a car that weighs near 4,000 pounds. Well, it needs the extra horse power to move it. Also at that weight, it will partly explain why it does not handle as well as the RX-8. Ok, yes the GTO will 0-60 in about 5 seconds, with stock. So yes, the GTO wins here. But, at some point Mazda may get it in their head to supercharge the RX-8 and there are bunch of new supercharger and turbo kits coming around this month. Ultimately, you will see 300 HP RX-8s. On the about 3,000 pound RX-8, you can expect to see 300 horsepower put them in the 5 second range as well. Plus, you get the added advantage of looks and handling. Even without that, it looks like the RX-8 has the overall advantage, and that is pretty much what most experts say too.

I’m not putting you down for making a different choice, but it does look like you are coming into an RX-8 forum to brag about switching to some other car, that appears to be slightly less than the RX-8. It appears your main reason was just HP. If it was all about HP, than why not supercharge or turbo your RX-8 and get to 300 HP, which for an about 3,000 pound car would make it about equal to 400 HP on the nearly 4,000 pound GTO? I would rather supercharge or turbo my RX-8 than to switch, if all I want is extra HP, than to get something slightly inferior.

Dude it's the general automotive section. Wtf do you want us to talk about? Do we have to add "rx-8" into every thread?

This isn't a 8 vs. GTO thread little fanboi . I'm fully aware of the advantages and disadvantages of both cars. When you start paying for my cars,
mods and insurance then you can come here and be critical of me.....until then you can just STFU!
