Bought a GTO!
Been debating for a few months now which direction I wanted to go. Traded in the 8 for it yesterday.
It was a semi-tough decision but Im very happy with my choice. The GTO: 2005 "Yellow Jacket". Has 1,756 miles on her and in
showroom condition. I've seen it practically every day I pass by the dealership, it had been there for about three weeks so I decided to take her for a test drive.
Needless to say she's mine now. The 8 was an '05 as well with only 11,850 miles on her, garage kept and babied.
It was in excellent shape, so I got pretty good trade-in value for it . Haven't driven the GTO too much yet due to friends visiting from out of town.
She's going in first thing tomorrow for tint. I'll post some pics then.
Awww WTH...I'm half drunk anyway..snapped a quick shot. I'll post much better ones later, that is if anyone really gives a rat's ***.
*EDIT- OK added better pics...post #25.

Thanks dills! Yeah they put the LS2 in the '05's. They also added
larger brake rotors and calipers, twin air scoops,re-did the rear fascia with added outlets for split dual exhaust.

Ok just cracked open the third bottle tonight, I hope this makes sense...it does to me now anyway.
Several reasons. I really had no issues with the 8 except for a nasty brake squeal(and r0tor you can kiss my *** ).
I loved the 8 for what it was and what it could do. Just decided it was time to move on to something else. I did have several
complaints about the Mazda dealer, which went unaddressed more than once. I'm sure that indirectly affected my decision.
These occured long before the infamous video became public but, I think it may have intensified my already angry
feelings towards the Mazda dealership.
Not to mention the fact that if I was going to trade I needed to do it now before the car depreciated any more. Considering
some of the amounts some members were being offered for trade-in's it was "do it now or evetually get reamed!"
I got damn close to what KBB trade-in listed it for in excellent condition, which was $21,900. That was after much haggling and
nipple twisting . I wasn't gonna pass that up. In the end I knew what the advantages and disadvantages
were of both cars so I'm not expecting any big suprises by the change.

Congrats, and enjoy. I test drove an auto GTO earlier this year (no skill required to run low 13s), and came close to pulling the trigger on one, but chose to get an 06 S2K. Nice choice in color and tranny. You'll have to earn your power more with the 6 speed, but I'm sure it's more fun to drive. If there was room and affordability for a third car, I'd have one myself. Have fun!!

good grief! there's gotta be something goin' around - i was at the Pontiac dealership here with a friend who traded in his 8 for an 06 GTO. He went with the black goat with red interior. I have to admit, the car is damn fine. I mean, it does 400hp/400lb/ft torque right out of the box. Of course, we were scoping out performance upgrades from various online vendors on the dealership's computer! Everywhere we went, folks were complimenting him on the car.
The sales team tried to tempt me to go V8, but I think I'll wait until the GTO and I line up at the tree on the 1/4 mile. Then we'll take it to the large parking lot where I practice drifting and I'll try my best Rhys Millen impression.
Congrats on your purchase, tiggerlee! I know of the excitement you're feeling... we also tipped back quite a few cold malted beverages later last night to celebrate the new addition to my bud's garage!

I work in the insurance industry and heard the GTO is going to be discontinued due to lack of sales and problems they have. I do recall seeing a drifting show where the Pontiac team kept breaking the rear end on an almost stock GTO. Dont' get me wrong I think the GTO is a nice looking car but it may fall in the same catagory with the 8 when it comes to problems. I have an 8 and love it. I'm not to concerned about any problems with my 8 cause I have a buddy who has been building rotories since the early 90's and he knows an ex-pro 7 racer that helps him from time to time. I'm even more lucky cause my neighbor's best friend is the service advisor at the local Mazda dlr.
Hey check our Streetfire.net cause there was a clip of some guy with a Magna Supercharged GTO just beating the crap out of ppl. Good luck with your new ride.

Thanks all. I'm still a little fuzzy in the head from last night. Just got the tint done and it looks awesome. I'm taking her for a wash...damn dealer put some nasty *** tire dressing on there yesterday and now it's all over the side of the car.
When I'm done I'm gonna post some better pics.

btw..I was talking to my insurance company yesterday about adding the GTO. To my suprise it only raised my premium $18 annually from what I was paying for the 8. WOW! that was quite a damn nice suprise.

I hate you. This is exactly what I am trying, and failing, to do. Had a perfect 2006 black with red interior picked out. Everything was going great until the deal fell right on its ***.

I made a quick GTO Photo Album so I wouldn't have to resize or host them. camera sucks btw..
oh btw. Someone mentiond manual..The one I bought was an automatic. Yeah I know I would have loved a manual but considering the deal I got I don't mind at all. I actually thought about getting an '06 but I'm buying a house before the end of the year so I decided against it. Besides this one only has a little over 1700 miles and still under factory warranty so all's good.
Back for commentary in awhile...
