BMW 335 times in the 1/4
#51
It's a Cavalier
Context.
And Rotary Rasp, no, a car that goes 12.6 at 113 gets to 100mph in about 10 seconds... not 5.9 seconds. I understand the exaggeration to make a point, but people believe things like that, and next thing you'll hear the office a-hole with a 335i quoting it.
Lastly, you just wait. The G8 is going to have some wicked fast cars all over the place... much faster than baddest stock block 335i. Just sit back and watch boys. Gen TT, APS, Procharger, STS all have kits either available or coming out.
How did the G8 get into this discussion? Oh yah. Must have been Razz.

Actually you don't need 2 Oil coolers for the stage 2 reflash....you just need the stock Oil cooler.....some of the early production models didn't even have the Oil cooler, so they just wanted to be sure that my car had one before they do the flash. Only for the Stage 3 flash do you need to Upgrade to a larger Cooler, but the guy I know at BMW said the stage 2 will be plenty, and all the cars they have done have gone for the stage 2.
As far as track times go, going out to the track 4 times now has opened my eyes to what "mags" quote for times, and what the car will actually do.....not that most cars aren't capable of running what the mags say, but elevation, driver, temp etc all play such a huge factor.....I know with our elevation here the guys at the track that are regulars say our times are .4 - .5 slower than mags times due to elevation change?......good to know to draw comparisons.......I have 8 runs in, 7 of which were 13.45 -13.5 @105 - 106mph...On a side note I did see one RX8 run there and I made sure to watch! He ran a 15.9 @ 89mph?...slower than I expected, but I am sure the driver wasn't all that good?
Track conditions make a huge difference to...we went this past Friday, and I ran a 14.5 @ 104mph??...a full second slower than my previous 7 runs....problem was the first 60ft of the track...all I got was wheel spin in the first 2 gears....they shut the track down for an hour to try and fix the problem but I left :{ Funny thing is I raced a modded SRT-8 so we really wanted it to be perfect! I chatted with the guy before we raced and even went to the started to make sure he lined us up...he ran 14.6 @ 104...same thing, no traction....it was brutal. When I get the stage 2 down in a few weeks I am heading back to the track so hopefully I see him again for round 2!

Razz whats with the Bimmer reliability comments, that doesn't even make sense if you actually research the facts?
Especially the 3 series is probably one of the best series of cars bmw has and currently makes. Have you owned BMWs or even been around a large number of them? The reason I ask is because I've actually owned a couple and autox with the main BMW chapter here in GA and out of the 100's of cars (mostly 3 series) they rarely have problems. Yes, if something breaks it's going to be more expensive... but that comes with the territory.
As a side note I never had problems with my GTO after the 2 years of owning it, but still your fooling yourself in general if your expecting better out of GM as compared to euro or asian cars. Just the way it is... we're not in the 1970's anymore.
so maybe research before BMW bash comments.

...wow. That sucks.
And guys...no need to argue about who has the better car. Just settle it at the track. Or if you're too far away to go at the same time, then with timeslips.

Compared to a G8 sedan you're correct, but compared to other coupes, the 3 series has one of the biggest back seats. Much bigger than the 8.
But why not compare apples with apples. The G8 is a sedan, compare it to the 335i sedan.... not the coupe.

Well as a 335 owner, I can say that so far the car has been great with no major problems after 22,000kms? I have had it to the dealer twice to reprogram the computer when it gave me errors codes about needing new brakes?? other than that it's been smooth sailing.....I don't know much about the G8, and no idea how this thread went that direction lol, but I would place a bet that at the track (1/4) I'd be confident with a win? The car is so easy to drive fast in sport mode, and with the auto, I've had the advantage over every manual I've raced......as I mentioned before, I've raced a manual 335 coupe with the Vishnu and got the jump on him...our times were pretty close though.....anyway, it would be a good race :}
I think the 335 is an understimated car, and the engine is simply amazing.....we'll see how much the stage 2 makes a difference....is it worth the extra $$ for the 335?...IMO I have no regrets, and love the car, so I guess that's a yes.
I don't have a scanner anymore, but hopefully in a few weeks I can at least give some new times with the stage 2 flash.....with the weather cooling down, I am hoping to run a low 13? At sea level I think the car would get into the 12's?..
