BMW 335 times in the 1/4
It's been a while since I posted here, but finally took my car to a track just outside the city a few weeks ago. I friend convinced me to come out and see what she could run?
It actually really enjoyed it, and it allowed me to run against some cars I have always been curious about. The place we went was Castrol Raceway...temp was unfortunately warm (25C). I got in 7 runs! My car is the Auto Sedan with Sport and Prem Package and Paddle shifters. It was amazing how quicly I would get the jump over every manual....My reaction times were great after the first 2 runs, and I'd simply put it in sport mode, put one foot on the brake and apply a little gas then floor it! Now I also have the Turbo Tuner in my car, so I was expecting to run quicker than I did, but with the Temp, and elevation we are at, and seeing some other cars times I guess I was right on the money? Every time was roughly 13.5sec @ 105....my lowest was 13.43 @ 106mph What was interesting was my third rcae I was matched agianst an 07 STI...the guy said he had it dyno tuned to 380hp?? I beat by more than a few lengths...he ran 13.9 @101 I also raced an 08 STI, he ran 14 @ 100mph......not one of the sti's got below 13.9? and the new 08 STI ran 6 races all around 14secs @ 100-101mph. I ran up against a Mustang GT....he ran 14.3@ 97 so it was an easy win.......the only car I lost 2 was a Shellby that was heavily modded....the car was a beast and ran 12.2 @ 120mph... It was a good time, and I am going to go again next weekend |
I was watching a show called Pass Times on speed channel. There was an 07 335i Coupe, that ran a 12.9. He had a chip and everything else was stock.
|
I can get your times on my new G8 GT.
Those BMW's are one nice car. Over priced and they fall apart after warrenty. Repair cost are too high. That's why I stay away from them. |

yah I was thinking I'd get low 13's with the Turbo Tuner...but I was told at the Track Temp and over elevation with make a big diffence in times. As far as repairs, I haven't had any problems yet with my car?...it's been great! Probably best experience so far.
I think the thing I realized the most is comparing mag times to actually seeing a specific car run at the track.....we are at 2200 ft above sea level, and that together with warm temps will make a big difference.....when talking to some guys at the trask who are obviously waaayyy more experienced, they mentioned my car had great times considering the conditions....case in point....not one STI ran below 13.9..... For the guy with the G8....I think if you had your car at that track, on that day.....I'd still have yah :} 13.8's are the norm for those cars stock right? add a little warm temp and elevation and where does that number go.....The guy in the modded STI really wanted to race me....good guy, but all he talked about was his 380hp.....it was a nice win :) This made me realize mag times are a good starting point but mean nothing when it comes to actual conditions and real driving...... |
For the pontiac owner....I'd put my pink slip down against you in 1/4 :)
|
forgot to mention I also ran against a 335 coupe with the Vishnu....he was very curious about me car.........he had a manual so I got the jump on him right away and to everyones surprise he did not pull on me...I finished the run ahead of him, but our times were close.......I ran 13.5 @105.5
he ran 13.44 @ 106.......I did watch him run a 13.3...but as far as comparing the different kits, I did not se any material difference that was worth the extra cost??? but still a good mod |

Yah, um, I would call bullshit on the guy with a "380hp" STi.... even if the 'tard couldn't drive, he would still trap higher than 101mph. |

Nice runs, especially if this is your first time out. What was your 60ft? What elevation and what was the temperature?

I have two friends with mid 80's 320i's. Both hand me downs from parents. One has 225K and the other 205k. Both original engines with no major work done to either. And the bodys are remarkably rattle free, a few squeeks now and then, but still tight. Not too many 20+ year old Pontiacs on the road are there?

Razz i like you, but sometimes you say the weirdest shit :)

elevation is about 2200ft?...temp was 26C, so on the warm side...I looked for my slips to check my 60ft times but no luck....I do know my reaction times got down to .20 - .30 range?
I am going to try and go again this Friday? I think it will be a stretch to get in to the 12's with this elevation and warm temps? Hell not one Mustang GT I watched or ran against broke into the 13's?? So all times were a little higher......but at 13.5, I was surprising a few guys:) and Yes I do agree the guy in the STI who said he had it dyno tuned to 380hp?? must have been full of it? Even during our run I got the jump and he was never able to pull on me....I must admit it was more fun than I thought! I really wanted to run against a G37 that was there...but no luck...maybe next time. What's intersting is that no manual was able to get the jump on my me in the Auto...I even ran against the Manual Coupe 335 with the Vishnu....I got a quick 2 car jump off the line and he never pulled?....surprised both of us...his trap speed was slightly higher at 106.4, but it was not a big difference..I think during that run I trapped at 105.5ish at 13.5...that seemed to be my consistent time. |
remember that the higher the elevation the better a turbo or supercharged car will performed compared to a NA car.
What progman are you running in the 335i? 29.2 or older? |
Here is a timeslip of a stock 335i chipped on 93 octane.
(PROcede tune) on the right, car 32 12.274 @ 113.010 in the 1/4 mile http://www.dragtimes.com/images_time...i-Timeslip.jpg I have a hard time believing that you were able to stay ahead of a tuned car. |

A "stock 335i chipped"? What? It's a modded car. I think you wanted to say "a chipped 335i, otherwise stock".
Broker73 says he has a Split Second Turbo Tuner. yes, that would be a better choice of words... a chipped 335i, otherwise stock... lol the car runs mid to high 13's stock.... what are the details of his turbo tuner? I believe the procede and vishnu kits are between 13-15psi... |

Some people on this forum like to bash drag racing as "only going straight", but I bet most of them have never tried it. :) |

Then the lighter 135i will kick ass, huh?
|
the 135i is about 200lbs lighter and the 335i is a bit quicker than a g8....lol

The fact you went out your first time and hit those times speaks even more for the engineering involved in making that car easy to drive fast. Nice job. Keep us posted on future trips to the track. |
Comparing a Pontiac to a BMW? Come on now..... In few year's time a G8 will be about as much as the price of a driver's door of the 335i.
