There really aren't any on lots around here yet but I'm seriously considering test driving one. Now that you have the option of the turbo GTI engine and a 6-speed manual people are saying this thing is actually pretty badass, and it certainly looks a hell of a lot better than the previous generation.

I did test drive the hatchback a couple of years ago and I really did like the feel and performance from that engine...I just don't like the hatchback itself. This new beetle could be a chance for the same performance, but with a different look.

Yes, while I like 'em, lots of people don't care for the look of hatchbacks, so the new Beetle could be just what you need. Plus you'd have a distinctive "new model" that would have some buzz on the street, which is always fun.

I'm looking for something to hold me over until (hopefully) a new rotary car arrives. I was almost set on a Z but with a new rotary maybe 3 or 4 years away I don't think I want to shell out Z money at this point when I'll only keep it for a few years. Don't really care for the Genesis Coupe or any of the american muscle either. Now I'm wishing they made the 4 door mazdaspeed 3 rather than the wagon.

I'd get a GTI instead, but it definitely is much improved over the last generation. After the last one became a "chick car", I think they'll have a hard time getting guys buying it. VW sure is trying hard though.

My ex drove the last version and I hated when she asked me to drive her car. I'm not usually picky about stuff like that, but I think it was a little embarrassing as a car enthusiast. I'd actually say that this new design is more masculine on the masculine side. I'd say this new design does appeal to me a bit... it's not at the top of my list or anything like that, but I definitely wouldn't mind being seen in it. I actually think the side graphics help it out as well.

I'm already seeing a lot of complaints on the VW boards about what equipment this car comes with. Apparently there is already a lot of discrepancy between what is in the advertising booklets and what will actually be available...and good luck finding a manual transmission. Also looks like VW may intentionally keep inventories of this car pretty low so good luck getting one in the options you want.
