I doubt it would be a huge difference. It's the same motor and same power.

its a few tenths of a second difference i believe in the 06 eclipse. ive heard the autostick is terrible. why anyone buying ANY sports car above 25k would get an automatic is pretty confusing.

i probably could have taken the automatic Eclipse.

Seriously, I think the Eclipse and the RX-8 are a close match from a dead stop when both are launched properly. I'm not going to comment any further about this.

You are right that the RX-8 is clearly slower in all other straight line accelerations (street start, 30-60, 60-90, etc.), but I'd obviously rather own the car that is slightly slower than the one that is slightly hideous. Otherwise I'd clearly be driving an STi or Evo...now wouldn't I?

Mag Times

Magazines almost always shave off the 2 or 3 tenths of a second it takes to get the car rolling from a complete stop. I believe car company marketers do as well, just like they post the inflated horsepower numbers fom engine dynos instead of real hp #'s. I've seen the mitsu and 8 .2 seconds apart on 0-60, and the 8 DEFINITELY handles better, I mean the mitsu's front-wheel-torque-steering drive for cryin' out loud. MIVEC schmivec. trim some weight off that 3580 lb. ***.

Maybe not huge, but power stealing planetary gears and about 50 clutches, combined with garbage ratios usually makes a signifigant difference. Autos are good for bracket racing though.
