I honestly think the reason they didn’t keep more of the concept going, was because if they pushed it out looking all sexy, then they got nothing for the future. This way they can add a little something every year; new head lights, glass top etc. I’m just curious how the convertibles will look like.

I saw a very clean looking light silver one today at a Wendy's drive through. I still don't see too many 06 Eclipses on the road for whatever reason...and as ugly as it may be from certain angles on the front, I like the car's looks overall. The *** is just spicy and spiffy. When I look at it from the side it reminds me of an armadillo for some reason. It's a weird looking car...which is probably why I like it. Just whatever you do don't look at it straight in the face or you may induce vomiting. Last I checked our RX-8s didn't exactly have pretty mugs either...though nowhere near as bad as these Eclipses.

At any rate I'd probably take one over a Mustang...just for originality's sake.

I saw a black one in person and nearly puked. This car has no flow to it. The sum of its parts do not make for a nice intergrated package. You can find some nice details but nothings that relates to the rest of the car.

I hate the way it looks. Just another common car. Shaped just like the 350z, Infiniti G35.

Not sure what edoc poasted but for those of you wondering... The 6 cylinder Eclipse will most certainly pull on a stock RX-8 in a straight line. And yes, even on the highway if you're revving to 9k RPMs!!!!!111!!1one!!!1

Hahaha. What do the Gt Eclipses trap at now? That's a very nice engine, but the car is just too heavy for me. I think it will end up being a very nice track queen too. From what I hear the engine is pretty solid. I hope it's responsive to heavy modding, could make some nice track videos :D

It's close enough to be a drivers race imo

They trap in the high 90s.

All the major car mags have them trapping 100-100.9mph

See Road and Track, Car and Driver, Motortrend etc.

If we're talking on the highway, your opinion is wrong.

motor trend has them at:

1/4 mile---14.2 sec @ 100.9 mph

sounds about right if my 8 is listed at 14.5

We test drove one the same day we bought our 8. We liked the look. It drove ok, nothing special. It handles well but nothing like the 8. It cost more then it should. After driving it we test drove our 8. We where sold and bought the 8 on the spot.

Did it take you this long to figure out that in almost ALL cases the only chance the RX-8 usually has against other cars is during an 8k launch from a stop or on a winding road?

Oh wait...no I'm wrong. You're just being you.

By the way...the Eclipse has to be launched properly as well in order for it to trap under 14.5...so it DOES come down to the driver between our car and that one.

Want to see me be me again? What do you mean "as well", show me one time the RX-8 has run near a 14.2, hell show me more than once where an actual owner has run the mag times. Lastly, show me someone that's been able to trap anywhere near 100mph in a stock RX-8. It's not a drivers race, unless the guy driving the Eclipse sucks.

no it wont....they run out of breath on top.....trust me because my close buddy has one and here is a pic to prove it....aside from that i did take him....and before you stated a 3800lb weight on the car and you should try 4350 (this is what my buddy's weighs).....we did run on the highway and he was damn close but he never gained....actually he was running out of breath at over 100 mph.....we tested both cars on open road to see which one would pull...and supposedly the autostick on those are supposed to be just as quick as the manual so there shouldnt be any arguement....just a shame though it will be some time before we can hit it at an actual track cuz he is also the first in the country to wreck his!

ChrisM, if you actually believe the autostick is as fast as the manual I have some lovely "waterfront" property to sell you in New Orleans.
