Opposite to hedgecore! I sold my 2004 Rx8 for a 2005 Type-S. The car is brilliant. I'm so happy with it. As for "have about as much passion as a rock", you must be kidding. This car is raw, engine-wise... it rocks. The I-VTEC provides a heap of passion, like a mini turbo.

It may be FWD, but don't let that fool you, it's handling is terrific and steering response is light and razor sharp. I've owned a WRX (1998), RX-8(2004) and now Integra Type-S, and for me the Type-S has the best all round package: 154kW, 0-100kph in low 7's and I'm averaging 8.8L/100km (or 27 mpg). Styling is personal, but I love it.

Honda has done it again. They killed the Prelude when they offered the Integra Type-R, better performance, cheaper price tag. And now the RSX by offering essentially the same package in the Civic Si at almost 10K less. I test drove the RSX before I got my 8, the handling was very sharp but lacked the power and feel of the RWD 8. But whatever, honda makes great cars and the new TSX coupe with 250hp should be a fun toy.

I liked the first version of the RSX (before the re-design). But, I would take a 7th gen celica over the RSX.

Prelude killed when the Type-R came out? Ya I guess that sounds right.
They'll have something coming out, hopefully they didn't replace it with just the new civic.
I really hope they don't turn into the present day Toyota.
Toyota had some great little cars (some were 'sporty' too!)ranging from the Paseo, Corolla GT-S, MR-2, Celica Turbo AWD, Supra. But those eventually were widdled away and now their sportiest car is the solara (yawn)!

I used to love my rsx type-S when I actually paid $24,000 for it, but now that they are getting older and more affordable, teenie boppers are eating them up and acting like they are the worlds fastest car... It used to be more of an upscale car because ricers, teenagers, etc couldnt afford 24,000 for a car, but you can see just by getting on CRSX why Acura is going in a new direction. I am thinking about getting an RX-8 soon lol

So did I. In the same day too.

The RSX drove great but sadly I knew exactly what it would be like since my brother has owned one and I drove it occasionally. However, I was very surprised by the super smooth tranny and pickup it had. The salesman told me to see how fast I could go in it and I willingly obliged. Then ripped it around a corner with e-brake and gunned it off down the other highway. He just smiled the whole way. (Car had 7 miles on it) But then I drove the RX-8. Just sitting in that car made me feel like a million bucks. Again, the rsx lacked the get up and go of the 8 and the rwd so of course the 8 won. What was funny was right when I got in the 8 to test drive it (12k miles, manager's car) the low fuel light was on.

Can you seriously notice that big of a difference between the two? You must not have got to 4th gear.

I looked at the RSX before I traded my Integra for my 8. I liked the way it drove and the handling, but I couldn't get past the looks. I think the front end of the RSX is hideous.

Then I got a chance to drive the 8 and the rest is history...

I never was really fond of the RSX styling when it came out. I only came around to it when they redid the front and rear ends in 2005? They got rid of the scalloped head and tailights.

I can see how a price leader hatchback doesn't really fit in the Acura lineup. They definitely want to move the brand upscale. They won't be selling any cars with a MSRP less than $25K ever again.

Not sure what you mean by best "all around package". It has 2 doors. It's slower than the 8. It can't handle as well. Its brakes aren't as good. It looks like a teeny-bopper car (yeah I know this is subjective, but most drivers seem to be under 20). The ONLY thing I can think of that the RSX-S has that's better than the 8 is the fuel economy (costs and modding aside).

Something tells me you must have had an AUTOMATIC 8?

If you are going to quote, then quote accurately. I said" for me the Type-S has the best all round package"

Since when is 2 doors "worse" than 4 doors?? It's personal choice, period.
Slower than 8.....yes, marginally.
It can't handle as well, probably true, but handles very sharply.
Brakes arent as good, true, but they are fine nonetheless.

"The ONLY thing I can think of that the RSX-S has that's better than the 8 is the fuel economy (costs and modding aside)."

It has a **** load more storage space, you can lie down in it if you fold seats down.
Insurance is a generally a lot cheaper.
Better driving visibilty.
It's about 2/3 price of an 8.
And yes, fuel consumption is significantly better.

In short, the things that you say are better with the 8, to me, are marginally better. But the advantages of the Integra to me are significant.

Finally, "Something tells me you must have had an AUTOMATIC 8?"

Nope dude, a 6 speed manual.

** this is not an Rx8 bashing. I thought the car was great, just too pricey to keep, maintain and the fun had worn off**

Yeah, I wanted to know why YOU thought it was the "best all around package", ya quote ****. Read between the lines.

Thanks for your response though. But it seems like if you weigh a lot of your RSX-S pros then I wonder why you bought the 8 in the first place? Storage space, insurance, and fuel economy?? Hello....

I had owned 3 rotor's before, so i always have had a passion for them in general. When the Rx8 came out it was very exciting. But driving it for a year, the fuel consumption was disproportionate to the power. Particularly at low revs. It annoyed me that even driving it at low revs it still sucked so much fuel. Maybe I was spoiled by driving other cars which had a lot more better and a lot beter fuel economy.
