Accidental Gear Change during Reverse

Hello All,

I have a quick question. Last night I was backing up my 8 and I accidentally threw it into Park while she was still in the process of reversing. A loud thump followed by a sudden halt. She seems to be unscathed, but please tell me...am I alright?? If so, I am curious what kind of implications this can have on a [this] vehicle specifically

Thanks!

Lol true story, I used to drive a ford expedition back when i was younger. I liked to pretend it was manual so i would drive it by shifting from 1 - 2 - 3 - D .... well one day i fuxored up and went from 3 to R ... BUCK BUCK SCREEEEEETCH - stall ...... as far as i could tell no severe damage to the tranny ... i'm sure it didn't like it though lol

Lol, I drove an '88 Plymouth mini van during my highschool days and I too use to drive it like it was a manual. Put that hoe in [N], Rev!, drop to [1] and launch!

This isn't going into reverse, but this made me think about this video.

Will it? I always just assumed it'd be physically locked out from reverse. The 6 speed in my GT500 won't go into reverse, period, at over a very slow crawl if you're moving forward.

That's not really true. There are several ways you can damage an A/T, and you CAN break the parking pawl if you engage it while moving. However, it sounds like the OP is OK, if it is still holding in the park position.

That's not possible. You can't go from 5th to reverse so don't worry about that. The synchros (or whatever) wouldn't match up and it's physically impossible to do.
