2011 RX7 Confirmed

How many people in the US do you think even know about the 24 hours of Daytona let alone give a damn about it? In addition what does that car really have to do with an actual RX-8, it's a tube frame car with a 20B and carbon fober body panels.
The new RX-8 will see a tiny boost in sales most likely but give it a couple months and the sales will be close to as bad as the current MY.

I do not know about the US car market but in Australia we had 6-7 years of record new car sales, however, in the last 2 months there has been a record slow down which I believe is attributed to higher fuel prices....it's near $7.00 AU a gallon.
IMO these record crude prices are just staring to flow on to other consumables (lets face it EVERYTHING relies on oil in some way) in the form of higher prices. Sales here of large six and V8's have also nosedived.
I think the world is in for a huge Shock, the US is said to be in recession many other countries are not that far behind.
A "2011 RX-7 Confirmed"? I am not so sure if we will even see a second generation RX-8 let alone any new Rotary Powered MAZDA.
Those GREEDY speculators and OPEC have gone too far!!

i c it as if it is gonna have 4 seats it will be a new rx8. but i hope it is a FI motor not a NA. it gotta dip into the roots a lil. the rx7's had turbo's before they halted production( but they were high priced and awsome to drive). so this new one will probly b high in price and everyone is gonna grab one. cuz our 8's are so fukn great on gas it is AWSOME!

That looks sick. Mazda did say their future cars will have some styling from the Furai and all the other concepts they came out with so that picture may have a chance to be reality and I hope so too.

Love the "RX-9" design!!
Very inspiring to the imagination, same way the NSX was when it's photos were released.
Let's hope that is a design Mazda goes with. Very elegant and classy yet naughty and aggressive.

If anything it will be called a RX9, Mazda has never gone backwards in its naming conventions, even more so having a new chassis and without a doubt an entirely new engine(hopefully 16x) there would be no reason to name it Rotary Experimental 7.

There was already an Rx9 so they may just call it an Rx Coupe?

I can't wait til the next RX arrives. I hope it will have at least 270hp, but still keep its agility and handling. I heard they might consider forced induction for the 16x, but who knows.

This thread is so informative! Everyone in here must know Mazda reps or something, unless everything is just pure speculation....

I heard they might put a v8 in the 370z, if they do I wonder what mazda will bring out to compete with that. these are truly good times to be a sports car fanatic!

Unless magically, the price of gasoline holds, or better yet, comes down....the days of a rotary powered car are numbered I'm afraid.
Gasoline price reductions are apparently a lot more likely than technical evolution that enhances the efficiency of these engines.
Mazda can't give them away right now. The $3500+ customer cash on an '08 pretty much says it all.
I'm sure gasoline prices aren't the only issue. The design is a bit long in the tooth at 5 years, and the '09 is nothing revolutionary.
I've seen many more available second hand lately. Maybe it's coincidence, but then again, maybe $4/gallon gasoline for a car that wishes it had the fuel economy of a mid-sized SUV is the reality.
One Mazda dealer stated in it's ad that the '05 RX-8 it was selling for 15 grand was a "gas saver". LMAO.
Now that's dealers for you.
Mazda's iteration after the '09 better be pretty compelling, or I'm betting its sayonara to the rotary.
