The stang has a flat beltline a domed roof, a visible b pillar. Both are coupes, and both are inspired by cars from the '60s but they are very different.

todays autoweek preview of the detroit autoshow stats that it will be powered by a LS2. even if they detune it, it should make at least 350hp shattering the stang GT's performance + its got individual rear wheel suspension

Yeah, but who knows what will happen to the Mustang between now and 2009.

well see. unless they put a supercharger in the GT, which i doubt they would, i dont think ford has anything that can stand against the LS2. its going to be interesting though, im looking forward to the return of the muscle car battle.

Well, whatever happens, history tells us that the Z28 will make about 70+ HP more than the GT, with the V6 only slightly below the GT.

Maybe so. But then history also tells us that the Mustang will outsell it because it's priced too high out of the target markets price range. Then they will stop making it because it's not profitable for them even though it was the better car between said competitors.

I hope GM has learned some lessons before they bring the Camaro/Firebird back.

Anybody know where the door handles are? And I thought... that they completely ditched the Camaro because of lack of sales. Oh well, never know these days. It's nice to see companies starting to make concepts of nice sports cars... now if Toyota can get the Volta on the road or some other Supra like car, I'd be happy.

You're not supposed to drive it.

i HATE the hood - it's reminiscent of the fugly hoods of the 90s. the back is good though, somewhat original. i still think the thing is too damn big.

Hmm.... it's not that bad... very... american? Anyway, funny how they're also using the 4 back lights like they would put on the 'vettes. But for some reason it reminds me of the Charger... but ignore that thought.

Wow...that's very impressive. I also think that hood is a little too much though. This looks way better than the new Mustang and Charger.

As much as I ama Mustand guy... this is a badass Camaro. If the price and seating position (the previous two gen sucked BADLY) are right... I could drive one of these.

I'm impressed. I'd pick it over the Mustang & Charger/Challenger... stylewise anyway

Avalon, it was due to lack of sales. However, the lack of sales did not stem from a lack of interest. The Camaro's and Firebirds was too much speed for too little money as far as the insurance companies were concerned. One of the main target buyers, young men, simply could not afford the insurance. My father bought an '02 when I was 18. We called up the insurance company for fun and asked how much it would be for me to insure it on my own policy. With a clean record, it still came to about $5000/yr.

I've been told by more than one dealer that on many occasions they've had young customers putting down deposits and getting ready to sign papers, only to back out once they called thier insurance company.

The insurance companies were partly right. The Z28's and Trans AM's can very VERY fast. People often under-estimate them due to the purposely under-rated HP numbers and the high weight.

Also, these cars are not like the 8 when it comes to engine mods. Being that both used a purposefully de-tuned Corvette engine, (GM didn't want the Camaro and the Corvette competing) they can be pumped up to very high HP and TQ numbers for very little money. For a few thousand dollars you can build a 500+ HP car without FI and using stock internals. The result was a lot of 17-24yo morons wrapping their cars around telephone poles at 180mph. So in a sense, sadly, it was those who loved the F-bodies that eventually killed them off. I’ve heard rumor that the use of the Chevelle name was being contemplated for this reason, so that the insurance companies wouldn't look at the new Camaro’s as another nightmare liability.

Oh, also, that's one badass car. I'm not in complete agreement with the design, but I like it.

looks wise Charger>>Camaro imo. Charger has a nice strong american look while still being somewhat understated. I would feel like an idiot driving this car around, especially with those mirrors. As usual, GM tarts thier cars up too much.
