to all the people out there who said that Hamilton was the next Michael, you're idiots. Michael has made stupid mistakes but he knows how to recover from them as we've seen many times before. Hamilton's crash was a rookie mistake that someone who's been hyped up like Hamilton shouldn't make. he took too much curb and when the slide started he should have turned into the spin, not away from it. he should have know the car couldn't be save from the spin and just locked the wheels into the spin to get it to come around. he also should have never left his hands on the wheels through the impact. he's very lucky he didn't break his hands or wrists.

the wreck with Alonso, i think Alonso lifted knowing full well what would happen. nice job Fred. if it wasn't Alonso the Hamilton just made an incredibly stupid mistake. Michael would have been in the points before the end of the race, damaged car or not.

i'm really beginning to think Alonso was telling the truth last year about car setup. why do you think McLaren did so well last year? they had one of the best cars and one of the best setups. it wasn't because of Hamilton but because of Alonso. now Hamilton doesn't have anyone to set the car up for him and he's having serious trouble. i don't think this is a coincidence.

and how about those BMW-Saubers! they still aren't up to speed with the boys in red but i really think they have a better car than the McLaren. Keep it up boys!

 

When you say that you think Alonso lifted, are you disregarding the pitwall telemetry that shows he was flat out on the throttle when he was hit?

 

nope, i just don't remember seeing it. the only views i remember were from Hamiltons car and rear view from Alonso's car. it could have shown that he was flat out but i was too busy paying attention to Hamilton trying to play leap frog.

 

Yeah, after people though that Fred might have been brake checking Hammy Renault released his telemetry so that everyone could see he was flat out on the gas. Just an overall difference in pace between the 2 cars, plus IIRC Fred was heavier on fuel at the time as well.

 

I don't think it was a team order...IMO

 

I agree, they were working too hard for their laptimes. Kimi's pit strategy was a little off or he could have won.

Niki Lauda was quoted saying to the 'Daily Mirror': "At the moment, he absolutely doesn't impress me. I thought he would become better this year, but he has become worse. He's in pretty bad shape. The crash with Alonso, and into the tyre wall on Friday, were absolutely needless. He showed nothing in Bahrain. That's because of the pressure he is putting on himself."

McLaren team boss Ron Dennis disagrees with Niki Lauda as the Briton is convinced his protégé will bounce back after his bad weekend in the desert. Dennis said: "What happens is you rationalise everything for a couple of days, go through a mental dip and then you come back. The only thing you look at as you go into the last weekends is the points standings, and they're all so close at this stage it's almost immaterial. When it's so close, you don't suddenly start panicking, you concentrate on starting the weekend and working though it and doing a really good job."

 

On the F1 website, Martin told the press that Lewis' front wing was already damaged before the impact with Fernando's Renault. The damaged front wing no longer did its duty of providing sufficient downforce, hence lose of drag as well, giving the Mc Laren more acceleration out of the corner vs. a comparable car.

It makes sense, but the replays doesn't show that the wing had any visual damage. I remember watching a show that explained some of the characteristics of an open-wheel race car. The inherit design of such a big wing on the front and back of the car for downforce, also provides a lot of drag. By simply letting off of the throttle, the car will slow down as if the brakes are applied, due to drag.

 

McLaren released that, but it is a lie. Look at the crash on YouTube. The wing is fine, he just simply ran into Alonso. He CERTAINLY didn't lose downforce for 2 seconds like he's claiming. Even Hamilton admits it was his fault so what's with the lies? I think McLaren is trying to protect his image. Him being popular sells more merchandise.

 

The race is being replayed tomorrow morning.

In his ongoing battle to clear his name, FIA President, Max Mosley has lost the injunction again gossip rag News of the World, as the High Court of London refused it. The injunction saw the removal of the damaging sex video of Mosley engaging in various acts with five prostitutes, but now that the injunction has been refused NotW has restored the video and reports visits to their web site has increased 600%.

Meanwhile, as originally requested by Mosley, the FIA has announced the Extraordinary General Assembly meeting of the FIA Senate on June 3. Mosley is expected to receive a vote of no confidence via secret ballot.

 

Once again someone famous felt the need to tape themselves doing something really bad and is surprised that it got out into the media somehow.

Well he is the man that brought us a 2 team race at Indy 2 years ago so nothing surprises me with him.

Max didn't know about the cameras; methinks it was a setup.

I have a hard time believing that Hamilton's wing was broken. He seemed to negotiate the previous corner just fine. Alonso however, had a bobble out of the corner and so was slow to get on the gas. With the rate that Hamilton was closing, Hamilton could've just went to the right and passed him on the straight. However, he inexplicably decided to keep going straight and run straight into the back of Alonso's Renault.

 

Hamilton's wing was broken. The top piece (the one going over the nose) flew off some moments before the crash -- there was a video of it on Youtube, not sure if it's still there with all the copyright crap from FOM. Alonso actually said Lewis hit his rear diffuser on Lap 1, which probably contributed to a piece of his front wing falling off. He probably had some sideways contact with someone else in turn 1 as well, since he got a really unfortunate start and was caught in the mess.

 

Lauda tells it like it is and he's usually right on the mark. (Much like American Idol's Simon, but without the humor...)

 

Like the time he claimed a trained monkey could drive a modern F1 car and tried it himself and was 30 seconds off pace?

 

Well he is quite old nowadays, what do you expect? After not racing since what, 1985, I doubt he could get used to the cornering forces over a single stint.

 

Plus I would think its hard for him to fit the helmet over his hat.

 

...Actually Michael was a liitle wild at times during his 1st two seasons in F1. He also had a reputation for being a bit too hard on tires. Of course he settled down and learned to win on pace+ strategy (thanks Ross). Once re-fuelling came into F1, tire management became largely a non-issue.

As for Hammy, it's three Gp's into the season and he has one 1/3 of those. His set-up at Melbourne and Sepang looked fine to me as the pace was there to cover everyone except Ferrari. Bahrain was a crap race for sure but Kimi, Nando and Massa had a few of those each last year yet the title was still decided by a point. Relax, Hammy will fight on this season as will Heikki and the BMW's.

BTW... Lauda was one of the greatest champions, but he's always going to shill for Ferrari. He's just trying to mix it up as usual, and it's good...can't wait for Barcelona.
