The truth may hurt now, but this may be a good thing for you. Now you just have to learn to use those little buttons on the steering wheel that that say ON and SET. Slow down and stay safe. Beleieve it or not we would like to hear from you in the future, but with your driving patterns that is not a definite. And despite the distance it takes to stop at that speed just imagine blowing a tire at 100 mph. Unless you are extremely lucky you will end up totalling your car and maybe yourself with no insurance money coming to get a new car.

If you want to drive at Autobahn speeds go to Germany. I had gotten four speeding tickets and I realized when I was 17 that it wasn't worth the risk. You don't have to stop what your doing, but be prepared for the consequences when you kill someone. Go to the track or slow down.

this thread is hilarious! The driver however isn't, he is clearly stupid. Hopefully darwinism catches up to him.

Joe P, getting that ticket was probably the best thing that ever happened to you. Closed-coffin funerals, if there's anything left to bury, are no fun.

I have heard of the autobahn, in fact I have driven on it. What do you know about the autobahn, I bet your wrong.

Oh, and where did you learn to drive? have you taken any driver training? any racing schools? emergency manouvre courses? or are you just one of those fortunate individuals blessed with natural ability to control a vehicle at highspeeds on a uncontrolled road?

Have you ever heard of the Autobahn? The fatality rates are lower on the Autobahn than on US roadways. There is plenty of documentation that supports my claim. You guys are all crazy. Probably the same people that say leasing is a bad idea. I've driven 20000 miles a year for the past 4 years, never once coming close to causing an accident. So if my 8 can stop faster doing 100mph than a mack truck doing 55, should the truck driver go to jail???

OH you were only going 90 in a 55 well in that case the cop should be shot in the face what the hell was he thinking? You ******* idiot, nothing wrong with doing 100 at 5:30am on a 4 lane road, sorry no buying it chuckle head. And for the recored my 98 ranger at 100 could out stop a 30 +ton semi truck from 55.

Who are we to judge?? Everybody on here knows darn well that he/she has done many questionable acts in his/her day. Do I follow every rule and law?? HAH, not even close. Like someone else on here already said, do the crime, do the time. Let's get off his back a bit... Judge not, lest ye be judged....

Have I heard of the Autobahn? Yes I have. And do you know how much it takes to keep the Autobahn safe? If one tiny crack appears in the surface they pull up the entire section and build a new section. The road is over 1.5 feet deep and is designed for speeds of 200 mph. Comparing the Autobahn to any US road shows how little you know. Even the best US interstate doesn't hold a candle to the Autobahn.

I don't care if you want to drive at that speed but at least grow up and admit that you are doing something completely stupid and irrational when you drive in that manner. As many others have said you are very lucky that you are home right now and not in jail. IMO, the guy that pulled you over was 100% cool and understanding, because if it were me you'd have heck to pay. Use this as a learning experience and slow down.

as this is a public forum.. it is judge and be judged.

It's his poor attitude that drives the point home, mixed with his previous posts. I have driven like a total idiot, but I have the common sense to say "yeah that was really stupid". I don't badmouth cops just for doing their job.

The cop followed him at 5:30 am on his way home from work (without him reducing his speed) for a short amount of time(at *around* 100 mph.. which would be what, about a minute and a half?) and paced him at 105. He's got posts on this forum about how he always does 110 on the way home from work.. at 5:30 am.

damned right we're going to judge- and post our opinons.. thus our soap box.

The issue here isn't about questionable acts, it is that he sees nothing wrong with what he was doing. Infact, he thinks the cop is an *** for pulling him over and giving him attitued for doing twice the speed limit. I too have done many questionable things in my life, but I know them for what they are, and if I was caught doing them, I would be man enough to admit wrong doing.

Yes, I venture to say everyone has heard of the Autobahn. I know the Autobahn, I've driven the Autobahn, and I've driven the Garden State Parkway. I can assure you, Punky, the Garden State Parkway is NOT the Autobahn.

The point that appears to have escaped your notice, apart from your repeated (and largely incorrect) references to the stopping distance Mack trucks, (which, I suspect you'd be safer driving), is that on the Autobahn 100+ mph speeds are (a) common and (b) expected.

A wealth of accident research indicates that it is not speed per se that creates the greatest danger on the highway, though your chance of surviving a wreck in an RX-8 at 90 mph or greater is virtually nil, but the speed differential among vehicles. If everyone travels at a high rate of speed, as is common on the Autobahn, it's considerably safer than an American highway in which automobiles travel at vastly different speeds.

By traveling at 35-40 mph faster than other traffic on the road, you're creating a major risk, both for yourself and others, especially if other drivers are not accustomed to adjusting for such behavior.

Now you may feel that no one on the road has a right to be there but you. But frankly, if you want to behave like a testosterone-poisoned idiot, most of the rest of us would prefer you spend your money on track time rather than act like a menace on the highways we all pay to drive.

Again, try putting your car into a brick wall at 35-40 mph. You'd both learn something and do your fellow drivers a real favor.

Ok guys, I'll admit most of you are probably correct. Most of the disrespect for the cop is just for my own entertainment, because there are alot of cops who do not have enough self control to do the job. It's just very frustrating because like I said, I have zero points and pay 2900/year for insurance. I have driven 20000 miles per year for the last 4 years and never come close to causing an accident. Believe what u want, i dont have any points. Now my insurance will go through the roof, let alone the finer i will pay. The idiots who cause accidents should be paying the crazy rates. Unfortunately, I am paying the rates.

Point well taken. It IS a public forum.
All I was trying to say is YES, he did something not too smart. Do I agree or condone?? Definitley not. We as fellow forum members can inform him of his unsafe acts without resorting to complete and utter hateful insults. That's what I was trying to get across.
Then again, sometimes there is only one way to get through to some people and maybe this will help him make better choices in the future.
JoePaterno, is there a public track near you where you can go??

Yes I have, as a matter of fact, I've driven on it. When they have wrecks, they are spectacular because its amazing how little is left of the vehicle(s) that are involved. There are very few areas that don't have speed limits on the Autobahn now due to congestion, the Germans slow the traffic down to a reasonable pace. I T-boned a Mustang in the states on a 4 lane state route because the driver of the Mustang decided to cut across my path when another car was blocking his view. I hit him at 45 mph (the posted speed limit) while test-driving a MB C-320. It was quite an initial shock for me having never been in a major wreck with over 22 years of driving/ flying (military pilot - read fast reaction time). I barely had time to move my foot from the accelerator to the brake at impact. There was absolutely NO WAY I could have avoided this accident once the wheels were in motion. All had seatbelts on, I walked away, but wife & sales agent had to go to the hospital. Bad bruising for my wife and broken sternum for the sales agent. Moral of the story: Yes, it can happen to you!!! It may not even be your fault! Slow it down a bit. The other Moral: MB makes one hell of a car to survive a wreck!

Ok $2900 a year is like $241 a month wtf thats high I pay 70 bucks a month grant it I am not in a sports car and I am in kansas city, but that dons't account for that big of a diffrence what did you do to get that kind of rate? Joe you just havn't caused an accident yet, your not incapalbe of causing one. To bad the day you have one a 100 your most likly going to die, think about.

From what I have read and experienced on the autobahn, there is still a retardedly large speed differential between cars. I wouldn't doubt that closing speed in excess of 100 mph are common.

The notion that the Autobahn is safer than US interstates is somewhat flawed, again from what i have read and experienced. I remeber reading that the accident rate per mile of road is less on the Autobahn than on US interstates, but the fatality rate is higher. When you crash doing 120 mph, you die and you likely kill other people. And if you don't die, you are responsible for a good chunk of the damages caused.

As well the idea that there are no speed limits on the Autobahn is completely false. There are speed limits, infact many sections have dynamic speed restrictions. Signs that dictate speed based on time of day and weather conditions. There is a night time speed limit on the Autobahn, which he would have been going faster than. There are speed limits for curves, near urban centres, during traffic, during rain, snow, etc. And then there is the recommended speed, which really is just the government covering their asses.

The single biggest difference that I saw with the Autobahn is the drivers. German liscences require way more driver training than over here and far more often. As well, the people over there obey the traffic laws. If there is a speed limit, it is obeyed, except the motorcycles, but they are flippin crazy. The drivers also move to the right for faster cars, not like over here.

You really shouldn't think the Autobahn is all that safe, it is a pretty stupid argument. But then, what can I expect.

You get use to no one beign there and then one day there is someone then what? Just cause most people are not out at that time dosn't mean that no one is going to be out. Anyway there was one person out besides you the cop! Try an autocross course turns are more fun than straighaways.

Joe, the world doesn't revolve around you. You did the crime now man-up and pay the fine. From previous posts you admitted multiple times exceeding the speed limit, only a matter of time...

This thread is like 6-piece chicken mcnugget's... "i'm lovin' it".

I think the point we're all making is that you seem pretty anxious to join this list of idiots. I don't care how empty the roads are at 5:30 a.m. At those speeds, on any U.S. public road, particularly in darkness, just one teeny miscue or pothole could toast you.

1. Pay the ticket, you earned it.
2. To save the money your insurance will go up, give ME your RX-8.
3. Get a moped and see what it'll do for top crusing speed.

You guys are really something else. I get flamed like this for driving fast when there is nobody on the road. I mean come on. I am not putting anybody at risk. The only person at risk is the person who walks out onto the highway, in front of my car. If you guys knew how much alertness I drove with, you might understand. I constantly scan the perimeter and slow down if I see anything that might be a hazard. Don't you guys have anything better to do than insult me? I was asking for advice. If you have so much time on your hands, why dont you go try to stop child **** or something like that.
