Are you seriously trying to compare a grand touring car that weights 3600 lbs to a 911? It's not even remotely the same type of vehicle.

3450 Lbs. to be exact. Still, front vs. rear, 50/50 vs 40/60 more or less. I'm just trying to figure out where the flawed design is. After more than 40 years it keeps on winning races and customers. Different fine, but flawed?
And you're comparing a $440k car to a $100K (GT3) one.

Purpose built race car on both. Much better than comparing to a GT.

There is no flaw, but the 911 has never been known for neutral handling. These days I'm sure they're not as tail happy though.

My 1980 911 is tail happy, so is my dog. I love them both.

+1, the only reason why everyone is defending the horrid placement of the engine is because porsche has dumped resource after resource into tweaking the suspension so they could keep the engine above/behind the rear axel. If they had designed the car correctly from the start they could have spread out their resources better and made an even better car. Engineering masterpiece I don't think so, the original engineer who dreamt that idea up should have been fired.

^^^ That would have been Dr./Prof. Porsche himself. If it was/is so flawed, how is it that it's still around after 40 years and has won so many races since day one?
Maybe you should go teach them how it should be done.

It still around because its the companies flagship vehicle and they're too stubborn to replace/change it and they would probably alienate some of their consumers. While I don't know enough to design a car from the ground up I do know you shouldn't put the engine above/behind the rear axel because it throws off the balance. I understand it does help the cars areodynamics but the fact you need to dump an excessive amount of resources into the suspension just so the car can be controllable makes it a flawed design.

I always love seeing the new GT3 RS out on Nurburgring, everytime I go there are at least 10 of them out racing. The cars look great and sound amazing.

The 911's design is different from most and gives a different experience. The design is only as flawed as the skills of the driver.

Many times the 911 was going to be replaced (928 for example) but loyal customers and fans wouldn't have it, so the 911 in it's original basic layout (and shape) has remained and succeeded. As long as 911 sales were strong they kept developing it.

Call it a "flawed design" if you want but many forms of the 911 still consistently out handle (and out perform) it's competition and in many cases with less power (and lower price), in both race and road going forms.

True many comparable cars are easier to drive but the only real flaw is the driver's skill like Sephiroth said. The 911 GT3 (and RS), especially, is extremely capable with the right driver at the wheel.
