One question I would ask is why would they give the regular WRX a 2.5L, unless they want to cut their own throat on the STI's ? Unless they will enlarge the displacement of the STI as well, but this is a big delineation point between the WRX & the STI, but take that away & how can you justify the large price differential of the 2. This would kill the market for the STI (unless it gets a hp as well).

Well considering the STi is a 2.0l in most markets with the same ej20 as the WRX I highly doubt it. The STi still has a 6 speed, DCCD, Brembos, larger intercooler, larger turbo, higher volume injectors, better tires, BBS wheels, various body molding, better suspension, more horssepower, and fancier seats over the standard WRX even if you do put the 2.5l in it. Try doing all that to a WRX aftermarket and you're well over the 8k price difference. The WRX would most likely be rated at 230hp with the 2.5l, still 70hp down from the STi.

It would only go up 3 hp ? It's already rated at 227 hp with the 2.0L engine.

Yep, but that would be a bit underrated like it is in the Forster XT so it's probably really closer to 240hp. The 2.5l doesn't do a whole lot to raise hp but it does give you more down low and a smoother torque curve.
