You don't have to use local tuners when you have the internet

In Tokyo you should be more concerned about having an affordable parking spot for it

welcome to high cost of living

parking expensive much like everything else. Depending on the area, will cost you 250-600 USD/Month. (mine is 300 USD/month)

There are quite a few tuning shops within Tokyo or in suburb areas around it. ones in tokyo are generally expensive for obvious reasons. As for as 'not quite as good as ones in xxxx", I can only say japanese workmanship is MUCH better then u.s. for sure. very detailed, no sloppy job. Costly too of course.

Car meetings I dont go but there are of course. however, you wont be meeting in tokyo, probably outside in nearby prefectures. There is NO place for you to drive for 30sec without stopping in this town. FYI, travelling within Tokyo, taking a train is much faster then driving there, not to mention cost of parking (meter parking, etc) is expensive.

Tokyo highway is a 2 lane road as seen in Tokyo drift movie (which btw, all other scenes about parking lot, kids driving, empty streets etc are bs) and always backed up with traffic. Thats where I learn how to drive manual cars long time ago. I stalled my engine like over 20 times and was totally ok with all the traffic. No such thing as wide open road for you to drift or drive fast.

Used car price is dirt cheap compare to the States though.

I have lived in Japan for 20 years. What exactly do you want to know? Daikokufuto still has people on the weekends, some of the hiway rest areas on the wangen still have meets, out by Fuji tv on most weekends, and near Yokohama station. It's not f&f ( by the way I helped yokumaku build the fd for Tokyo drift, as well as the NSx in it) you have to be 18 to drive so no schoolies with cars.

You can pic up any car mag, option is good, drift tengoku, or any of the style mags for events, and meetings. As for shops there are too many to list. There are open track days at nikko, ebisu, Fuji, and Tsukuba.

Don't worry about fitting in or the language. I moved there in 93, It was easy to fit in, and now more than then they have a better grasp on engrish. I'm in Dubai doing some builds so I can't be of more help than what I can post up here.
