Maybe let me just clarify:
any batches of the rx8 also hve the steering rack problem. If lucky, u wun get it. heng suay one... not just the first batch. Some of the first batches are lucky enough not to get it. HOWEVER, it is more dominant in the 4ATs.....
The second cooler u r toking abt is the ATF cooler.... which is recommended for AT cars to cool ur transmission fluid.
Spore MM model is the Euro spec model wit 2 engine oil coolers... the MT gear box does not need any coolers....

The steering rack problem seems to be heat related. ATs only have 1 oil cooler and maybe 1 aftermarket ATF cooler. So my theory is that perhaps ATs have a higher chance of developing the steering rack problem because they run hotter. Just a theory.

I'll be dropping by Monster Garage tomorrow to have a chat with its owner, Mike, recommended by one of my friend from MM. Prob will talk more about the rack problem. Garage R sent me some data but downside is no possibility of extending the warranty..*sigh*..

Mike actually recommended me to a friend of his from Kruise Auto, looks like quite a good deal because of the special tie up with Monster. Price is reasonable, 3 years warranty (special case because of Monster), but have to confirm on the OMV.

hi there i also owned a rx8 just bought, WITH 'P' plate hehehe, using my money onli, not parents money or ah kong money, anyway watever they say is correct, just buy and you won't regret it, enjoy the ride

I would oso like to share my $2.01 cent worth.
I got my ride thru 1 of the subsidaries. Gave me a 3 year warranty which is as good as toilet paper.
Went to their spanking new blah blah thousand sq ft workshop located
in Sin Ming estate but inside all empty, more like a warehouse.
That time my ride was vibrating during morning start, once warm up was ok.
The Service Manager tell me blah blah blah, they will check this check that,
I need to leave my car overnite so they could check from cold start.
The following evening when I picked up my car, the "head hand" tell me
Apart from the mounting, they couldn't find out the vibrating problem that
goes away after warm up. LPPL!
When he check my engine oil, he took out my Auto trans dipstick.
I told him err......that's auto trans, engine dipstick at the side
So much for "head hand" expertise. He tell me oh....i check all for u mah!
I was thinking....yeah rite! my rite oni 18K and u need to check auto trans?
But he tried his best lah. he took out my spark plugs, clean the carbon for me
and took out the throttle body and clean off the carbon too. Quite helpful lah
but 1 tiny problem is while cleaning the TB, the alignment of the flap was out.
So when he put it back, my idling was at 1600 - 2000rpm!
When i query him, he said oh it's liddat, once the ECU gets used to the better air flow, it will re-adjust. So with the benefit of the doubt, I drove off.
Can u imagine at the traffic light at 2000 rpm and shifting from N to D?
Anyway I got it fixed elsewhere and didn't go back to kick up a fuss coz the "head hand" was a really nice and helpful guy.
The 2nd episode at the workshop was after CNY, I went back for SVC.
I told them my horns 1 side not working. The mechanic check and then took out the horn and then tell me "one of the horns not working".
So he showed to the same X&^%$£* manager, the fxxxxr told me
"this is an after market horn. we do not warranty aftermarket parts,
OEM horn is the round metal one".
I told him, I got my ride brand new and I have never changed my horn.
It is a grey "KLAXON" Made In France plastic type shell horn.
He was so insistent that it was aftermarket and so happen the XXXXXXXX GM was there, he asked him for confirmation and the GM that looked more like a door to door salesman can agree with him!
I went away calmly as it was like CNY period but I got to the bottom of it.
RX8s and even the MAZDA3 are using the same kind of double shell horns.
Today I mentioned to my boss about my horror stories becoz he booked a Porsche Limited Edition. 911( I think) from this same PI and it was our Mr. Door to Door GM that served him. Immediately he pulled me down to XXXXXXX. My boss demanded Mr Door to Door, assurance in writing and wants him to sign the warranty himself!
For my case, they said they would get to the bottom of it, I told them I am not expecting anithing but just make sure they know what they talking about.
I have since changed to aftermarket horn but the OEM Klaxon horn only costs $30 at Autobacs.
Interesting highlights :-
My 1st service with them, they introduce me "Castrol" synthetic for general cars.
The service manager boasts that he is from MM previously and he knows all about
RX8 with the wankel engines.
The GM assured my boss that they employing some mechanics from agent, not sure current or previous to service Porsche.
But I guess they must be either be a genius or genie becoz the workshop
does not have diagnostic equipment.
So moral of the story is before u buy an RX8, the most impt factor is the
PI's workshop & after sales service(wilingness of the PI to change defective parts) not the cheapest selling price!
There are only a handful workshops who understands RX8.
Mazda motor, Monster Garage and Garage R.

Black 8, thanx for sharing. Your experience will certainly allow many newbies like me to know more about the industry. Today I was actually on the phone with one of the agent, but I simply could not understand their pricing package... very complicated formula which is different from how other PI calculate before and after cash rebate. Anyway, i told myself to forget it..... Monster looks good for me at the moment.
I hope the synthetic oil didnt make it to your engine in the end?
BTW you have any feedback on XXX XXXX? i hear that they also have a lot of subsidaries?

oh xxx xxxx oso is another big time regret.
join us for our meets, meet up with the bros whom brought from them for
their story.
that servicing i used mineral, then CNY i use synthetic...idemitsu rotary syntetic from monster.
the agents are hopeless, they will promise u the sky moon earth pluto etc...
like i said even their warranties are as good as toilet paper.
it's not only about 1 or 3 years warranty, even if u have 1 year from MM or GR or MG, afterwards they will still svc and repair yr ride lor.
i made a common mistake. price first, everything else secondary.
i got my ride at cost. they earn oni on finance and insr comm.
38K OMV, 17K open cat COE, I bought at 102K but today i cursing and swearing
at the workshop even with a 3 yr warranty in my hand.
they will dispute what is wear and tear parts and what is covered.
engine mounting and steering rack, 1 month old oso considered wear and tear parts(movable)
all we want is peace of mind and convienience
join us for our meets, meet up with the bros whom brought from them for
their story.
