Would like to know what most of you guys have upgraded to. Are you using a wider rims behind and normal one in front or both same width? What tires are you all using? If can let me know price would be fantastic as well. Thanks.

there are people using the same setup...and there are those who are using staggered setup. depends on how each individual wants his drive to be like.

advan ad-07 is quite a hottie that has been tried and tested.

price wise...for rims..there are so many brands and designs to look at. so maybe you let us know what rims you want and we see if we can help you.

there are a lot of brands that are bring used in our 8s.

Volks, PIAA, racing hart, Work, Veilside, prodrive, etc.....as long as you like...as long as within ur budget....as long as the rims matches your car.

BBS is nice..hard to go wrong.

What is the benefits of having wider wheels behind? I was told that it is dangerous to have wider wheels behind during wet weather as it will lose traction easily. Is it advisable to use a spacer to push out the wheels than to get wider wheels?

Tire wise....how is RE040 compared to AD07? I am looking for a deep dish rim but not too flashy. Should be strong enough to handle tracking. Hehe

As Coupe07 likes to say, staggered wheel setup is a benefit that only RWD cars get to enjoy. Wider = more traction, so I don't understand how wider wheels make it easier to lose traction. I'm assuming that you are gonna use wider tires with your wider wheels. But then again, I don't know enough about wheels and tires. Maybe someone with more knowledge, wisdom and experience can share their thoughts with us.

Spacers are ok as long as not too far out, but I'd rather just get wider rims. Deep dish rims are normally more "show car" type of rims which tend to be on the heavier side so not really very suitable for tracking IMO, but again, what do I know... :p

Wider rear wheels give bigger traction, which is good since RX8 is rear wheel drive... It's not dangerous, unless you're are revving high at 6krpm n make the back lose traction due to aqua-planning... Spacer is not adviseble cause it can damage the wheel bearings... try not to use spacer thicker than 10mm...

RE040 quality is so aweful to be true with you..... However it has a long lifespan.... On the otherside, AD07 has more grip and warms up easily, unlike Brigdetone and Michelin....

Oh no now i am even more confuse. :P Anyway I have already decided to go with a staggered setup. Neutral sounds like walking on a tight rope....car can go either way of oversteer or understeer. I not tat good a driver so understeer is better ba....kekeke =)

It cldn be for worse... looking at the laws of physics, wider tyres, better traction.

anyway, report was based on the 350Z which is very front heavy. The 8 is a 50/50 setup and by right, we can even say the car is mid-engine (cos the engine sits after the front wheel..

Looking at the japanese drift cars, drag cars, race cars,which are RWD. Which one of them are not using staggered setups? For looks only? Or is there a purpose?

Of cos, looks do play a big part in spore, since we cun really run here without having mr policeman trailing us. Wats more, staggered setup, as i've always said, is a privilege for RWD which no other cars can enjoy. Of cos some other car counterparts are using staggered setups for their FWD for "hiao" purposes.... which sporeans are quite famous for.... "car looks nice can liao".

Of cos, by posting this, some interesting arguments or debates may arise. But that's wat the forum is for.... to "share" info....

Rims have been touched on above, so i shan go into it.

For tyres, Neova AD07 is currently one of the most bang for bucks tyres u can buy. If u have a little bit more money, Bridgestone S03 is pretty good too. Branded tyres, Goodyear and Michelin are pretty good too. However they may not have the size available for ur rims setup. If ur on a budget, Falken will serve u juz as well. Be it ZIEX or AZENIS, the latter's latest model RT615 (are the front 2 alpha correct?) has pretty good reviews.

My take is go for AD07s for the excellent grip and squarish tyres walls, and of cos, price dat u pay is definitely value for money.

according to law of physics, while wider tyres mean more traction, they also mean higher tendency for aqua planing to happen due to lesser contact pressure.

having said that, staggered wheel arrangement is common for RWD. as discussed in many threads, it gives better rear traction and thus induces understeering, which makes it safer to drive. even S2000 has it.
