can putting piggyback and remapping ecu improve both fuel comsumption and increase hp? if not, wat is the best mod dat is worth doing

I believe ppl in other countries have piggyback their 8 liao. There is the interceptor-X and emanage. What I would like to know is if there is a plug and play version of AEM EMS for 8.

I have read that people in other countries got not much gains (about 10+hp) and it ocurs only in higher rpms; cannot verify it though. Sqflyer said it was possible to gain even more.

I very interested in installing a piggyback. But i am concerned about, heat, rpm and speed accuracy and poor gains (10+ hp). Still doing some research before i take the plunge.

IMHO, piggyback ECU is probably the most bang for bucks power mod for our 8 because the 8 is already quite optimised in stock form. However, how much gains you can get from a piggyback ECU really depends on how much you dare to push the tuning. Tuners will normally set a fairly safe margin with average gains. Even if you don't really utilise the power, you will at least get some savings in fuel. If you really want to push the limits, you can always ask the tuner to tune it more aggressively but of course there is always the potential of causing damage or even catastrophic failure if tuned to extremes or if the tuner is inexperienced. So before you go out there to install a piggyback ECU, ask yourself how far you are willing to go with the tuning and what it's worth to you. And I'm not referring to just the money.

ECU is worthless without the exhaust and air intake mod..... Have these things done n let the original ecu do the adjustment itself.....

I wouldn't go as far as to say a piggyback ECU is worthless but I definitely agree that it's better to do the exhaust and intake first. I have seen some real results from two 8s, both are stock with the exception that one has a piggyback ECU installed. The one with the piggyback definitely performed better, both on dyno and on the road. However, that being said, our 8s have very intelligent self-learning ECUs. I've heard from some that after a while, the ECU adapts and modifies the mapping and the performance returns to normal. *shrug*

IMO its more worthwhile to do other simpler mods before the ECU. But like what SQflyer said, even without other mods, its still worth considering.

The crucial element is the tuning.

Thats what i have read too. ECU learns the "hacking" and reverts to normal but i think theres a limit to how much deviation it can take. Maybe it will show check engine when pushed too far?
