a new singapore rx8 forum? where we can do things free without being restricted by people who are miles away? anyone keen?

 

You are WAY better off with this forum, based in the US, with US laws and standards.....

The thread that was suspended was returned, intact, and the legal threats were answered by forum administrators. I believe their reply was "....bring it on!"

Of course, if you think a parochial forum in Singapore jurisdiction would be better and "free-er" , you are welcome to step up and be held legally responsible for every comment from every member......

Very good point S. Very few places you can have your cake and eat it too... I think the rules in this forum are generally quite fair and I believe the moderators already give us some leeway that other regions don't get. It's a thankless job.

 

Yes... I very much prefer a US base forum. There is more protection to consumers and forummers. The LAW is fair and just, unlike... *ahem*.... gangsterism way of handling situations.

If these small little ikan bilis company think of taking legal actions against the forum, they over-estimate their own strength. If Someone who owns a company as big as Temasek Holdings can't even sue a person in the US for defamation, how can the ikan bilis do anything? Best is for the Ikan Bilis to follow suite and resort to banning. Like banning of FEER magazine being imported, banning of certain political inclined person into the country.... Ikan Bilis PIs can ban customers from buying the car. Hahahahahahahha!!!! Best is to close down sell bicycle or something lar. Smaller some of money involved. lol!!

 

tink mkl22 was referring to the spark plug thread where his thread was being deleted due to unapproved group buy and not conforming to forum rules i guess...... moreover MX tradings come here to trade, which i tink he has to pay to advertise...

 

it was more of the WOW incident actually. but yes group buy too. i know this group migrated from the delfi forums. whats wrong with going back there. also look at SHC, they seem to be doing well.

 

if its WOW incident, then shld be no problem at all cos the thread is re-opened, every word is intact in that thread... if this is a singapore forum, i tink the thread oredi in dustbin once the word "sue" or "defamation" comes up.

Actually.... We must just be united as a whole. We such unity, nothing can touch us. I believe we have many here from all walks of life, big businessmen, lawyers, gangster, ah long, hackers, and the contacts we all have, etc..... if we stick together, we will never fall...... Like the movie 300..... errmmm... Mabbe I watched too much movies.

I'd have to agree with Flyer, C7 and Silver here - I think the rules here are generally fair and being a forum admin is truly a thankless job. Having run many a forum myself - it isnt easy.

As for 'freedom of speech' - well this is Singapore bud. Ask yourself just how much 'freedom' we truly have

I enjoy these forums as it gives us a perspective from all over the world regarding our much loved cars. Having fresh ideas would no doubt help our cause in getting more out of our rides and problem solving as well.

Scott and Mazsports has been a great help to me personally with regards to the Interceptor-X. something which I would not have been able to do locally. The RP short shifter that some of us use and absolutely love is another instance of a foreign product giving us greater enjoyment on a daily basis.

Fact is - these forums have given us a whole lot more than that - friends from all over the world. I'd never have met the local RX8 club, known about Monster Garage, got some of the deals that I'd gotten and support from friends who truly understand how I felt when my car was down.

That on its own is priceless. Some of those whom I've met have proven to be good friends and for that and that alone - I'm indebted to these forums!

Nothing against you at all mkl22 - just stating that I'd not support a change to a different forum thats all but if you guys are intent on leaving....then all the best

Hi all... its been a long time since I visited! :D :D

I did actually suggested to some members within the SG community to start a local (or even an asia-based) RX8 forum... I'm currently running another fairly successful forum and it wouldn't be too difficult to start another...

I guess most fears can be allayed by the fact that my server is currently located in UK and at the same time, members are binded by rules as stated by the forum and also there need be several mods to help ensure that everything's in order...

If everyone is keen on the idea and is supportive of this new forum, I'm prepared to look into it again...

My opinion is...... it has its pros and cons.

Pros
a more organized forum, where different topic is categorized for our own local community. Unlike here where it caters to many countries, all asian thread are in a mess and sometimes u dunno if they are asking abt SGP or HKG or wherever. Buy/Sell post will be easier to view than the current where everything ends up in 1 thread.

Cons
This RX8club.com is a community made up of the world, providing vast knowledge and experience. I doubt our 200 local member can even match up to 10% of what we can see here. In the end, we still need to come to this forum for knowledge and advise.

 

Well analysed.... maybe it would be better if we have an Asia forum instead... for our neighbours like Malaysians, Hong Kong etc etc... else with 200 members, its gonna be real quiet in the forum...

 

Local forum is used for Local Events, group buy, outing and chit chating.

RX8Club.com remains as the knowledge baze, which you could have a section which put all the link to the respective posting/thread for technical advice.

Just like what we doing now for malaysia forum.
