Hey .. whats the diff b/w 95 and 98 gas? I'm using the green one now. Almost scared everyone in Mobil when I exclaimed at the price of the gas. Big diff once again. Gave the cashier a good laugh though.

98 is greeen...... 95 is red....

98 is $1.601 per litre to be exact... today onwards, discount drop to only 5% islandwide.....

98 octane is premium unleaded, meaning more "clean".....
95 is unleaded niah, but our car still can take it......

nvr go for blue, its only 92 octane... our car not made for it...

Yeah man!!!... been paying thru the nose for the past few months...
cruise speed meaning 80km/h??
dunno if itz the v-stab thats making the thing go wrong or what... but i think i will remove the v-stab after the kit is done...

green is 98 octane
red is 95 octane.

i presume u using esso/mobil??

98 octane is deem cleaner therefore burns more completely and gives u "more power"
95 octane is oso clean, but not as clean as 98 octane and therefore may so-called result in residue while burning.... but our car is tuned for 95 oct setup, so no worries.......

No lah.. I'm sure there are other who get better FC than me.
Engine oil - dunno leh, I take whatever MM gives me. Hvn't decided what I'll use after the free services.
Special mods? - secret weapon can't reveal in public, but doesn't help FC leh?!
No lah seriously, biggest effect on FC for any given car is your right foot and knowing your car's cruise speeds - leanest A/F mix.

Another difference is obviously the cost of the green 98 and the red 95, but it ends there. You can't get any noticible additional mileage (or power) out of the green 98 than the red 95. In fact, I think they're equal because our cars are tuned for 95 octane anyway. I'm sure some people would disagree, but unless we have an RX-8 engineer here to enlighten us and prove otherwise that 98 is better for the RX-8, I will continue to stick to 95 because it's cheaper and does the exact same job. I'm just a typical Singaporean when it comes to fuel, get the most cost effective option and best bargain (within reason of coz). Thankfully, I get 15% off for all my petrol. *phew*

Actually U should be able to free the diff between 98 and 95 when u step on the accelerator.
With the 95 the Rev tends to be abit slower.

I had try both the 98 and 95 on both my Rx8 and Proton and I get the save feeling.

But with the power of Rx8 95 is more than enough . (not unless that u love the power and pick up, then 98 will be better )

Sorry,... my butt dyno's accelerometers aren't sensitive enough to tell the difference on the RX-8 between 95 and 98. My rational is that if 98 really gives more power than 95, then I should see a difference in mileage per tank under normal driving conditions. Butt (pun intended) after measuring my FC over the last 8 months, I don't see any significant difference in averaged FC using 98 or 95. In fact, 95 gave me better mileage every now and again. So bottom line for me, 95 is still the most cost efficient and gives the same or better mileage. Just my 2c. Don't take my word for it, try it for yourself and if you think, or feel, or think that you feel that there is a difference between 98 and 95, then help yourself to it but gotta pay more lor. But go in knowing what you're paying for is heaps better than blindly following the crowd IMHO.

If i'm not wrong. better combustion delivers more power as the fuel ignite faster and easiler. So with 95 u will feel that the car is trying to drag its way up to a higher speed.

It should not have any thing to do with mileage or Fuel consumption. Cos your foot controls fuel pump and it controls the amount of fuel to be spray into the combustion chamber for ignition.

juz mi .5cents contribution:
fuel r 'coolin' agent in a combustion engine.the higher the octane level, the better the 'coolin',thus gvin the light-pickup feel.(do u feel ur ride bhaves diff in a hot day & cool nite)
4 NAs like us,in fact,95 is gd enuff;unlike FI engines,runnin @ a higher temp internally.higher octane;eg 110, will allow tuners to 'advanced' the timin more w/o gtin 'pinked'(detonation)

Fuel consumption has got to do with the design of the engine.

Some engines are able to deliver the same amount of power with lesser fuel, while others require more fuel to deliver the same amount of power.

sorry, irrelevant comments. ok, back to topic. for 8, it shld work fine for 95 or 98 but some folks swear by 98 while others recommend 95. since urs is second hand, how many kms has ur car gone? tis may give an idea to the folks here how run in ur car is.

i'm using 98 (i swear by shell too) and i'm getting 8.5km/l.

My car is 11 months old, and clocked about 14,000km. So its pretty much past the running in stage right? I suspect the owner couldn't maintain it maybe (though his reason for selling was coz his wife was pregnant and couldn't drive it?).. coz it's in pristine condition, still has the stickers on the stereo and cashcard unit, and smells new.

Bro, like I said, I don't feel any noticible difference in acceleration or drag using 98 or 95 on the 8. I believe our 8s are tuned for 95 petrol and do not fully realise the gains offered by 98. I agree that the fuel pump is control directly or indirectly by my right foot, but my right foot is controlled by my brain (most of the time, at least... lolz). Basically, driving in SG is very dependant on traffic conditions. Under normal driving conditions, and under normal right foot control, if 98 gives more power than 95, then I would not need to step as much petrol to get the same performance, right? If I step less on the gas pedal, wouldn't I get better mileage? Therefore, I believe that if the averaged mileage is around the same, then the performance of 98 and 95 should also be around the same. If any bro/sis here is getting significantly higher averaged mileage using 98 compared to 95 (must be same brand of petrol), please share your findings.
