On the meter 24k. Rev 10k rpm (1st and 2nd gear) 9.5k rpm (3rd and 4th) on a highway, for about 1 hour+. Of cause, got slow down due to traffic, but rev again when the road was clear. Root cause still don't know. But this happen to many people in this forum. Looks like it is common. I guest it won't happen if you drive nicely (no guaranty :D ).

Please don't side track. This thread is about AT or MT :D

csl, the way you abuse your engine, it's no surprise that you needed a new one. In fact, it's quite a miracle that it's only your 2nd engine. If you like to rev so high, get a sports bike - 18K redline. Actually, I think you'll probably rev it to 20K and blow that too.

yeah man....redline is one thing. BUT dragging past the red line...and 1hr+ at that is another. Me think sports bike also not enough redline. maybe F1 car can make u a happy man, no?

oh....root cause of it....pretty obvious isn't it. Car not enough redline for you.

ya, agree with flyer... u r lucky thats only ur 2nd engine...

The way u whack u engine...... no wonder ur engine gone...

Rotary is meant to rev... but not to 10k rpm or 9.5krpm...

Wah kao brother! Pretty excessive don't you think? Now I am not so worried about my own engine.. since I'm not half as insane as you are

Revving high not necessary will make the engine blow so soon. There are so many reasons. Including carbon lock. But I'm sure if you drive at 2-3k rpm, the engine may last for a very long time.

Yes, but you are not "revving high".. instead you are frequently "over-revving" your engine for lengthy periods of time. Seems like you don't know how or don't want to keep your engine healthy. And no, dropping your oil pan for an oil change does nothing to improve the condition of your engine.

Honestly, now I'm testing the limit of the engine. Will let you know how long it can last. The RE rebuilt engine start use at about 24200km. Now about 26800km. Driving style no change. But add 2T. If proven to be that easy to blow, I'll sent my ecu to limit the rev to 9k rpm

Look at the picture, do you think it was due to over rev?


I think we should argue else where on this issue (you can dig back the old thread). Just let our friend know if the engine blow, how much would it cost. Let him to be prepared in stead of assuming that the engine will last forever. Overhaul will cost about the same too . The $$ different with piston engine overhauling is way too big. Correct me if I'm wrong.

VERY WRONG too to assume if drive at 2-3k rpm engine will last forever.....

carbon lock becos of wrong engine oil and lack of high revs (take note its high rev, not over rev)

Overhaul is really cheaper than a new engine, FYI....

Why are you risking the cost/s of overhauling/changing the engine for the sake of testing the limit of the engine? Don't be mistaken.. I am interested to know too.. but I am curious why you are willing to waste the $$ to find out how much you can push?

That's the reason why I bought RX8. If just for the sake of driving fast only, I would go for S15, GTT or even STi which have better acceleration or someone call it the 'pick-up' feel. The joy of owning a car is not limited for the driving pleasure. But also the process of modifying/upgrade it, experiment and etc. Club and tt included as well. There are thousand of people who are more crazy than me out there. Go to tech garage or after market mod and you can find a lot.

Yo CSL, what have you been smokin' to rev the Renesis so high for extended time?

Seriously all engines have their rev limits, including F1 cars. Even Takumi's AE86 original engine blew when he took it beyond what it was supposed to do. 99% of us on the forum have no issues of engine blowing up, if you watch and listen to the rev limit warning. On the contary, limiting revs to 2k RPM will definitely lead to carbon lock and expensive repairs.

I think the RX-8 is a fun car... rev it up to a safe limit from time to time to free up the engine, but dun over-do it lah... all engines have limits!

Used to trash my Mivec those days and hard to change now . If I found the limit, it will be very useful for those who like to join those track day events. I'm away from the country most of the time. So, once got chance, sure rev like nobody business . Of cause, only when the road is clear. Night time and raining days will not do that. The salesman (my friend) was right. Never get an auto. Else, better buy a used SLK or 4 door Skyline. The joy of a MT RX8 is great.

Hmm.. everyone defines pleasure differently.. Keep us posted on the things that you test with your 8 okay? Very interested to know the outcome..

For the record, I'd choose MT over AT anyday! I had an AT in my first car and I'll never go back again unless I have to!
