Hi guys, I'm a newbie here, currently studying in Australia. Was wondering if anyone could confirm for me that Mazda SG doesn't intend to bring in the RX-8 with auto transmission?

Hi Melo,
As last we heard from them 'NO'. They didn't wanna bring in the Auto. They didn't really give me any reason why. But I believe, after their launch, and if there are over whelming of requests, who knows.

I was told that if MM bring the 8 in then we'll have no problem getting the parts coz the spare parts dealer should be taking parts for the 8 too........ ?

Thanks M-ster! Hopefully they'll bring it in. I just got in touch with them but they seem to be saying that they are unable to get the AT model for sale. But if the PIs can get it I don't see why they can't.

A pity they are limiting the range offering. If the PIs offer good enough after-service, people may not see the need to go to them.

Hi melo!

As with all businesses - it's about timing & opportunity. There were already alot of RXs zooming around in SG even before MM started to OFFER the RX for sale (none on the road yet from MM).

Read somewhere that there's a long waiting list in other countries. PIs ordered their stock sometime back... so natural that they can get it.

As for your last para, me think that's a fact of the free market system! He/She who moves first wins more! MM does not offer (from what I was told) any Mazdaspeed options - despite most enthusiasts wanting to customise & accessorise.

BTW, what r u studying there? And when will u be back in SG for holidays? Maybe u can attend our SG meets? Cheers!

Hi! all!
I'm from Singapore too and currently interested to getting Rx8 next year 2005. now doing alot of reading up and market research.

some Questions,

1) i know for sure that Mazda Spore only bringing in the 6speed manual Euro version for June 2004, but any chance at all by the time 2005 they might bring auto version in??

2) all auto RX8 comes with steering shift?

3) So far any guys here with PI RX8 have any problem with servicing and parts/replacements or accident repairs???

4) i was quote 134+K for auto with steering shift by Hua Yang... reasonable??? or should be cheaper?? I assume that's the 210ps version.......

Hi I got quotes of about 128000 from Vin Car but I'm not sure if it includes steering shift. It does have the paddle shifters if that's what you meant.

All Auto version includes the steermatic system.
210 ps only, 7000 or so RPM max.

One other option you should get (which even the type E model doesnt come with) is the 18 inch wheels. The standard 16 inch is just too small for the RX's flared wells its weird... youd be much happier with 18 incher potenzas.

The type E also includes a spoiler, the BOSE 9 point sound system, sport suspension, brakes, LSD, automatic seat controls, fog lamp.

Hi Vagus, the price is for the normal RX-8. The type E is around $138K or so I think.
Does anyone know how much oem fog lamps would cost on the normal RX-8? Also how much would be the moonroof option on the Type E?

hmmm, thanks! But type E has sports suspension??

I'll definitely be changing to aftermarket 18" . No point getting the oem 18" coz the design limited and can prob find lighter rims.

Ok, i will try to contribute my 2-cent worth here based on what i know. On our sunny island, most owners have the Type S and I only know of Naughty Boy and myself who own the Type E. (anyone else out there?) The Type E does not come with a spoiler, does not have sports suspension , does not have fog lamps and does not have a sunroof. It comes standard with electric leather seats, powered at driver side, LSD n DSC, shift paddles, BOSE sound system and 16" rims. When I indented my car in Sep 03, I requested for the following options : 1. Upgraded my rims n tyres to the 18" with sports suspension (S$1200), 2. Sunroof (S$1320), 3. Extra Transmitter (S$105), 4. MP3-CD kit (S$383), 5. Front Fog Lamps (S$473), 6. Interior Foot Lamp, (S$180) and lastly Factory Alarm (S$195). The dealer threw in the front and rear rotary crests, side strakes and aluminium pedals FOC. I waited 4 months and got my car with only 9kms on the odometer. Had my first service done at 1000km at the PI's workshop, changed the air filter and engine oil used is Castrol RS, total damage is $49.35. Mileage now is 1680km only after 2.5 months and I am getting about 280 to 300km on a full tank with normal driving. Lastly, I absolutely loved the car and I am sure everyone here feels the same way too. Cheers.

Hi dru999, need your advise on a couple of stuffs:

- if u dun mind, can let me know where u got your accessories from?

- the side strakes u mentioned, u referring to the 2 metal rods behind the front wheel?

- the factory alarm...I understand the car comes with imoboliser kit only without any alarm, and local fitting it will disrupt the operation of the imoboliser. Is it possible to order this factory alarm and retrofit it locally?

Thanx...

All my accessories r from my PI and my servicing is done there too. My car is without the immobilizer and that is why i had the factory alarm fitted. Honestly speaking, I know next to nothing about cars but the people there really impressed me with their knowledge and expertise about the 8.

Dru8999, thanks! very helpful info!

can i ask how do you know of the options? they have a catalog where you point to each item you want and they give you a quote for the price?? IS the price included in the total cost for the car or you have to come up with cash?

Erm, can i ask wat is the extra transmitter for?

The mp3 cd kit --> fits in the dash? or put in boot?

what about radio reception...heard damn tarok as with all JDM receiver....

anyway i am also interested in type E. is it possible to pm me on which PI you get from and the amt you paid (also the price of COE you got).

I'm thinking of getting from GarageR based on the good review from you guys here as they seem to know their stuff and reliable to boot!

thanks!:D

As time of booking, all my options were made known to the PI and from the prcing on the web, they calculated to base car price of the Type E to be $118,000. My options cost an extra $3853. Add my COE of $25001 and I paid a total of $146854 for everything. My OMV of $45500 is pretty high as the exchange rate on registration date was high. MP3 kit is in-dash, not fitted in boot! Extra transmitter is purely for my own convenience as i misplaced my keys around the house very often. Radio reception sucks and I hope RX-666 can give me more advice if i have a chance to see him. The car came with a one year warranty and 3 free oil changes. Since i opted for synthetic oil at the time of service, i had to top up the difference and paid a total of $49.35 which i felt is very reasonable. I even got the Free Safety Light that comes with the purchase of the Castrol RS oil now. Oh lastly, my PI....well, it is located at Tuas next to the Ferrari showroom. Obvious enough? Cheers!

you have done it again! I would say the info you provided is very good reference for guys who is shopping for RX* esp the type E :D

Can i ask what is the pros and cons of installing the add-ons/accessories before collection of car or after the collection?
Will it be cheaper to do it before collection because they dun charge you labour?
lets say i opted for the accessories to be added before collection, do they fit it in the factory and ship the whole car with the accessories? If that's the case, OMV will be higher?? please enlighten! thanks!:D

Normally the add ons will only be done in Singapore by your dealer, I believe for labour charge varies form one dealer to the others. Most offers free labour as they already make from the accessories itself.
It's the dealer's interest to bring the OMV down, thus no way they will put on the accessories in Japan.
