This is what worries me. All the info that I've read here on this forum, synthetic works just fine on the rotaries. But here you are relating your own real experience on this issue, which inevitably makes me doubt my own choice of oil.

Crud.

I heard that there's a way to clean up your engine....... This is wat RX7 owner told me..... I think it's available at Ah Choy's place..... Alternatively you can open up your engine and replace the apex seal........ This can save a lot of money.......

I wouldn't call it a rumour. The stuff I've read are presented with facts and (what I believe) strong arguments. Though I don't know the source of info personally (eg. rotarygod) I find his knowledge very creditable indeed. This include threads on oil on the zth forum too.

But like I mentioned before, lennon's actual experience on oil beats everything, with it actually happening closer to home and lennon is not known for bullshitting .

If I'm convinced that any form of synthetics is bad, then I might as well hop on the bandwagon an get me some rotary oil. Nothing less for my car.

So replacing the apex seal is cheaper than the method available at Ah Choy's? And you mean to replace the apex seal IF it's broken right?

Darul, recently i went to service kong's car in a quite reputable workshop in kk, TOKAI. they are recommending the Splitfire 10W40 mineral oil. i asked kong. it works fine for him. may be u can call him up for more info. it cost less than RM100.

The pricey element is the engine rotor housing and intake housing plus the rotor itself........ A single scratches on either of this parts will make you empty your pockets....... Apex seal is actually a wear-n-tear parts.... It's just a matter of time **** happens...... So it's adviseble to change it every 50k...... This is just my tought.....
It's too late the moment your engine blows, becos the apex seal must have jump out of it's position and scratch around the entire engine....... You wanna see sample, just go to Ah Choy's place.....

What many rx7 owners do including me to "clean" the engine is to run distilled water thru the upper intake manifold. You can do this by locating a "nipple" on intake and whilst keeping revs at 3k rpm dip hose connected to intake into a bottle if distilled water. run about 500ml-1liter. There's some noticable difference in accelaration and decel. Having said this, of course the improvement is subjective and i dont doubt if others will beg to differ.

On oils, i've seen a drop in operating temps running semi syn. there's no problems in running other reputable oils considering the technology available today and the reduced amount of ash content. if money is no issue run redline fully syn and you'd love it.

How long does your full tank last before you tried the primax 3? I don't know how likely it is that the change of fuel affects your mileage that dramatically. However, spoke to Vincent once before, and he mentioned that the V Power is not good for our cars. He experienced the CEL coming on when he's on that fuel. I can't remember any other adverse effects though. Marcus also mentioned that the Primax 3 increases mileage slightly.

I used Shell regular, then switched to Primax 2, then back to Shell regular. I found that no significant gains/losses from both types, whether it's mileage, throttle response etc. But Alhamdulillah, no problems so far. I'd guess that by using the Primax 3 for the next few fill ups, you'd understand the problem (if any) better, but of course I wouldn't take that risk just to diagnose what's wrong. Stick to Shell regular for a few fillups, and see what kind of response you get from your car.
