Amemiya vrs Knights Sprts

Is there is a difference between what Amemiya does and what KnightSports will do in terms of performance or additional features?

Juz done mine yesterday...perfectly happy wif the results...

Horsepower gains are marginal but u will definitely be able to feel it if ur already
on the knightsports muffler...exhaust note sounds slightly different (bassier if i'm
not wrong), the whole car feels more responsive, rev climbs are smoother instead
of the more unstable climb before...Difference in oil temp is ard 2-3 degree celcius,
difference in water temp shld be slightly higher up to 5 degree clecius (estimated)

Most importantly for me, after several mods, the car is starting to feel very raw...
The ultra smooth characteristic of the rotary engine is starting to fade away...
But right after the tuning, the smooth feel of the rotary came back...When I was
driving home last nite, it actually feels like the very 1st time when I got my car...
Super smooth...

Ride: JDM 6spd mt

Actual gains: 6-7ps or 12-13ps (wif the Knight Sports muffler)

Rating: Most bang for buck mod that offers the most horsepower gains for the
most minimal spending...(Better if u have the Knight Sports muffler)

So folks, Knight Sports are in town only from now until the 28th...Do be quick
should u want to do a remap coz I think the queue seem to be quite long wif
bros ard the region coming for the remap...

Lastly, Thank u monster garage for arranging the visit from knight Sports...
Although I've waited for I think ard 6mths, it is definitely well worth the wait...

When you mention actual gains...I assume you did a base run on a dyno?

Hi,

Did the Knightsport remap today. I think generally, I do see similar results as the review earlier.

Engine is smoother and quieter
Oil temp is about 2.5 - 5 degrees lower
Water temp is about 5 - 10 degrees lower
Throttle response is slightly faster with faster rev climb
Exhaust note is louder

Generally the car do feel perkier.

I'm using the old type Knight Sports muffler...The one wif the relatively stock
looking tailpipe...My header has also been changed to the Knight Sports 4-1
header...N I'm using the Knight Sports metallit super cat...

But I dun think that the header n the cat would give u any additional gain wif the
remap since Knight Sports did not advertise so?

Hope this helps...

Hi Rei.

I'm interested to find out how the remap was done? Was the ECU removed and the software uograded or was it on the car while the tuning is being carried out?

De-cat? You'd better not even drive anywhere next to a TP as the smell alone would be a dead giveaway

KS exhaust are never as loud or as bassy compared to the RE ones...but it does
give a very loud shrilling sound when ur revving it to the high end...sort of like an
enhanced rotary sound (my own opinion). Though I did hear b4 that the KS
exhaust system focus more on the low n mid range of the car compared to the
RE ones...N yes...the low end did improve...

Hmm...wif a setup like that, there is a possiblity u might run into some o2 sensor
problem...If my memory serve me correctly, I think I've seen an rx8 going into limp
mode after decating his cat at a local exhaust shop...So, I think its best to stick
to 1 of those tried n tested high flow cat...

But If u use a same setup but wif a high flow cat, the low end shld improve
significantly....the car shld feel much torquier compared to stock...Though I can't
say the same for the high end...The improvement in the high end is marginal...
There is definitely improvement but I dun think its as significant compared to the
low range...Though I might be wrong? Coz I haven been hitting the high end of
the car as often as I wished...I think a few more tries shld tell me if improvement
is better than I thought?

However, if u forego the cat n juz stick to tuning n a muffler changed...there will
already be a significant improvement as reported by 1 of the bros who did only
the remap n the KS muffler on his 6 AT...

Anyway, hope I managed to ans ur enquires...

Yup, the ECU was remove for the remap...coz I think they have to solder some
chip on the ECU to proceed wif further mapping on a computer b4 installing the
remapped ECU back into the car...However, I was told to give the new ECU ard
2 days to re-learn the driver's driving habit...

hehehe

hmmm..seek ur opinion,
i install the legal KS muffler & de-cat all pipe then get some1 professional to weld it up nicely, will they still able to sniff it out at inspection centre?

any1 tried b4?

ermm hope it works, so tat i can njoy the loud & powerful pipe with a Lta approved cert to shown off!! ehhe

thank you! v. informative ")

which tried & tested high-flow cat can u recommend?
-high flow cat meant changing a new cat instead of de-cat? then i might haf the same problem when i bump into ROV..hmm correct me if am wrong, i will haf problem with ROV no matter i de-cat or change highflow cat?

sign, actually my objective is to get the maximum fun out of the pipe setup with a approved cert to pass all ROV..

Yes, de-cat or high-flow cat are both illegal. But the difference is: De-cat.. definitely can smell, sure kenna hauled to LTA for full strip search regardless whether you have cert or not (dun think ROV are so dumb to think that you can't de-cat after you get a certified exhaust). High-flow cat, normal smell and probably won't get asked to visit LTA especially if you have cert. If this is not enough to convince you not to de-cat, take note that de-cat will almost always cause a CEL in time to come.

Sorry bro, dun think there is a setup for our exhaust to remain LTA compliant if u
intend to change to a setup wif a higher flow...Like bro sgflyer said, high flow cat
is also illegal...Closest LTA compliant setup I can think of is KS, Trust or Fujitsubo
muffler wif an Autoexe header that actually comes wif a jasma cert (So I suppose
it shld be legal)...

Anyway, the tried n tested high flow cat are the KS metalit super cat which I've
seen alot of bro using, the RE high flow cat, the R magic high flow cat, the HKS cat
(seen on the rx8 bible b4) n I think a new cat by Sard which I happened to
chance upon on the net but not sure if anyone is on it yet...There might be more
but this is approximately all the cats from tuners I've heard of...
