as quoted before "its not the ride, its the rider". I know of a rich kid who got a nissan murano from his parents when he was 20 and wrecked it . Whole thing turned turtle, complete write off. Lucky twit got off with fractured arm and glass cuts over his face. Even SUVs arent safe if the driver doesnt know what he's doing...its indulgent parents who bear the guilt.
If i am so lucky as to have a boy or girl, i will teach them to drive Initial D style in a lau pok car (lousy pickup, top speed 90kmh or engine blow, and no power steering). =p

i am thinking what would happen if the vehicle involved is a nissan sunny instead of the wrx? Would we still be saying 'its not the ride, its the driver'. I just feel that if because the wrx has the reputation of a tiong chia in singapore...so the moment accident...sure kena pin pointed as the culprit.
Maybe he really going over to Tuas to meet his friend for coffee? Maybe the area really very dangerous(cos the papers reported that another accident happened there a few days back). Maybe he worked really hard and helped his parents invest their money and also did well in his school plus he always help old lady cross the road thus his parents say 'boy...you have been a good son. we love you very much. here is your present'

Well isn't it the same for anything else... be it a car, a mobile phone etc...
Long time ago I remembered my dad's friend bought his son a Lada (when it was still being sold in singapore), the guy treasured it.. I mean, he polished that tin can till the russian paint wore off, kept it smelling like new, he was so grateful that he got wheels and didn't have to take the bus... There are people who do treasure stuff and take responsibility even if it is given free. Not everybody is irresponsible.
This is one incident that should not have ended this way.

No doubt NOT all rich kids are spoilt but its just rich kids with sponsored sports cars given to them at too early a age before they can earn their own keep are more prone to such situations. Compared this to Loksk's Lada driving friend. Will he be so yaya papaya and go recklessly driving; even if he did, would a Lada reach fatal speeds (not that Ladas are safe but they obviously cannot accelerate as fast as a wrx)

There are good ones who do deserve their sponsored cars but on the other hand, there are still some who are still so stuck in their juvenile behavior that makes me wonder if they still wear diapers.
I have this friend, dad struck it rich and started buying new and fats cars for my friend now and then. And why? because this friend always end up crashing his car and yet his dad still keeps on buying fast cars for him. Once bitten, twice shy, thrice is god-dam asking for it. And another friend (rich kid) who crashed his dads s-class and chalked up a 120k insurance claim; why 120k? 20k for damage to government property, 40k for damage to 2 other cars and 60k in repairs to the supposedly-totalled s-class. In this accident he nearly killed a mum with her 2 children.
Jason: I, too, was young once at 17 and i bought my own motorbike secretly even before i got my license. Had a accident the first day i got my bike. I concede i was young and immature. I am lucky to be still alive today, i have had many friends who died or got seriously injured.

Its not exactly wrong for parents to buy kids expensive and fast cars if they can well afford it, (its just not advisable). Whats really wrong is for the recipient to fail to understand that their parents bought them the car as a sign of love and pampering; and not for them to misuse it and cause harm to themselves or others.

Give a kid a real gun that only shoot pellets and yet the kid will still point it at other or shoot small animal with it. And it still hurts.
Ultimately its the person behind the wheel that controls the car. I see see SAF vehicles get into accidents and even flip over. Speed is not the only contributing factor. There are speed limits on SAF vehicles but it still does not prevent them from hitting or hitting other vehicles or drving across a runway when a aircraft is landing. (stupid as it sounds but stupidity abounds)

Brudders & sistas, everything is relative... We generalise as a rule of thumb, but every situation is different. It may be as what you think and it may turn out to be totally the opposite. But the fact is someone lost his life and the more important issue is that we (and all other drivers collectively) learn from other people's mistakes so that we don't have to make the mistake ourselves and face the same fatal consequence.

Being in a Lada in whatever speed is dangerous enough... you never know when the car will fall apart...

Seriously, like i said b4, no one really wants this to happen..be it a wrx or a
sunny...accidents like this will only hurt the pple who truely cares n love the
ones involved...I dun think anyone shld blame his parents for buying him the
car?Their intentions was gd...all they wanted to do was to shower their son
wif gifts to show that they care...They wld never have guess for things to turn
out the way they did...

I had an accident before , just 1mth after I got my licence.
I would consider it as serious, Was travelling at 80km/h and was 2 cars length from the car infront of me , it was raining very heavily on that day.
Suddenly the car infront of me stop, and I jam my brake immediately but the my car did not stop and hit the car infront.
My the 30% front part of the engine compartment was crush
From the photos of the Crush WRX he definitely did not travel below 80km/h.
Even if he is driving a Sunny, the results will still be the same and the public will still said that the driver is full responsible for the results of what he did, and nobody will be sorry for him. and if he happens to kill someone, everyone will hate him for that, just like the case when a car crash into a Bus stop killing a school girl along bendemeer road.
My cousin who was travelling at 100km/h on a 60km/h limit road, got a fine and start complain to F__K TP for what had happen. but I refuse to talk to him regarding about his speeding case cos I was thinking, Everyone is responsible for what he/she did and can't blame other for one's action.
And most important of all should not ask or even demand others to feel sorry for them.
The above is just my personal thoughs, and it someone is thinking other wise, please do not "SHOT ME"

Heard from a friend that the rex guy friends were around when he crashed. They sped off leaving the guy's gf at the scene. Never even try to help that poor fellow out from the crash car.

Joking, just joking.definitely not the correct way to pamper a child...if rich (or SB rich), should plan a future for the child ....invest funds for him so that he can be self-sufficient or (even fricking rich) at a more mature age. To keep indulging the young kid with all these adult stuffs is just not right. IMO, the parents must really look at themselves what they are doing to their child, instilling the child with sense of irresponsiblity and extragavent spending.....its just stupid....i will never want my own kid to be a dumb rich snob ....rather be a rich smart and responsible one with sense of financial management.
this incident seems to fit the profile what we are discussing about ...of course i do not mean all are like this (hopefully not). please dun be pissed if your car is a gift. be glad you are what you are. appreciate and learn to cherish yourself. you dun know how lucky you are. before doing anything, think of all the 'rich' you will miss if you do something stupid.
although i have to work like a dog to maintain mine. too bad no rich dad.
