The above math is just assuming 1 year usage. But it is the ratio that's important since number of years in both scenarios are a constant.

Just to throw up a question for value estimation, what do you think would be the selling price of these new batch of 6AT 3 years down the road? Current pricing leaves it at a depreciation of 8.++k, you think it'll be worth $65k (7.6k depreciation) 3 years down the road?
Sorry... my crystal ball looks very cloudy. Actually, if I knew such things, I would be driving a Ferrari or a Lambo instead of an RX-8.

6ATs are out less than a year here... maybe only 6 months or so. You'll be hard pressed to find a second hand one for sale unless the owner desperate/bankrupt. If depreciation for new 6AT is really only $8.3K vs $8K for used 4AT. I would get the new 6AT without even giving it a single thought. $300 a year is next to nothing for a new car compared to a used one.

Prob is l think the longest l will drive the 8 is 2 yrs. So l guess lm better off settling for a second hand one.

Then I guess happy waiting for 2nd 6AT coz the first batch was in Dec 06 (I guess). In other words, the oldest 6AT should only be 6 months old. Haven't noticed any less than 6 month old AT Rx8 on sgcarmart so far.

Actually nobody was asking for crystal ball answers. There must have some misunderstanding to my question. Was hoping for experienced people who can give guidelines on how to estimate. E.g. performance cars do not normally sell at below $XXXX.XX depreciation, or the % variation of the first purchase depreciation is normally not more than a certain amount. Or using existing examples where 2004 4AT currently selling at 75-77% of original purchase price, so perhaps 75% can be a useful guide?

honestly does it matter? I mean you are buying the car for yourself yah?=) If you are concern about what others think then perhaps better to do a poll with your future colleagues and buy the statistically most popular car if popularity and image is your concern?

I agree totally. Your money, your choice. And actually, any car can become beng... just add beng stickers, beng-looking body kits, etc. But who cares? It's your car, enjoy it and love it!
