Changing of Exhaust system

Hi Guys, please give your comments, I heard from some people that changing the exhaust system, for example to a HKS system for the RX8 is damaging to the car as the original expert engineers at Mazda would have fine tuned the original exhaust to suit the power and performance of the vehicle. Is that true?

I heard that the engine is rather quiet, I was hoping to get a deep but low humming sound which would really enhance the driving experience. Do you know if its not good to modify the exhaust? The other day i called Garage R, they quote me like S$2k for a HKS set!!!

Hi

Sorry a bit lor sor here.

1. there are no approved after mkt exhaust for the 8 so far (maybe the MS exhaust carried my MM is approved but did not check that out).

2. the factory ususally designed things to a price point. They simply cannot give the 'best' to a mass production car. this explain why many after mkt tuner survived, by giving something more exotic or increase the performance of the stock parts.

3. The worst thing an after mkt exhaust system (cat back) can do is not improved on stock. I don't think it can be worse than stock.

4. If u remove the cat and not tune the ECU, the back pressure change will give a worse low, mid torque. So pse think carefully as it may not give u the sound u want but give u more trouble (including breaking the law).

5. If u want the sound, the cat back exhaust is the safest bet so pse look at bro cuscorex recommendation. My colleagues changed his header and got great result (including sound). On top of bro cuscorex recommendation, my favourite is the amuse titanium exhaust but sure to attract TP (guanrantee!!!). The most beautiful exhaust for 8 (IMO).

6. And when u touch exhaust, most people will go for intake, header next as the whole 'package' will enhance ur driving pleasure.

Happy considering! :D

Sounds really complicated. So if i want a good sound but not to damage the original performance of the car, I should not go for any after market modifcation but just change the Cat izzit? Any good shop to recommend for the change? At first i thought the guys at Garage R will be able to give me good advice but looks like they are over charging... for something that is illegal and might damage the car performance?

Sorry if my post is confusing. Any exhaust u change beside stock is illegal. If u remove the cat, it is illegal as well. The exhaust will not 'spoi' the performance.l
Most branded after mkt exhaust will actually give u better performance. They usually dynoed with better torque as well as bhp. Factory exhaust system have more 'restrictive' mufflers etc. So if u don't mind, the easiest way is to get an after mkt exhaust like fujitsubo.

U can order them from Yap brothers, Garage R, imperial concept to name a few. anyone can install for you. Don't worry abt performance. after mkt exhaust will definitely give u more 'oommmp' and more shiok. Just don't get something that is so loud that will attract TP attention (like those titanium exhaust costing $3k plus!!)

Enjoy.
