All Auto Rx8 Owners!!!!

hello, my auto rx8 is turning one year soon already. so far, everything is still stock. and i am planning of getting one or two birthday present for my rx8. since i am not so into cars, therefore i would like to consult all the old birds, esp those who drives auto on what they have done to their car!
planning of increasing the diameter of the rim, currently the 16inch seems too humble, does a 18inch rim affect the acceleration? what about a 17 inch?
i am also thinking of adding some horsepower to my 8, any suggestion? reasonable type can? cause of low budget. maybe a good exhaust or a good air filter or something that helps the intake of air?

It is not easy to increase hp and keep most thing 'stock'. However it may be better to increase the driving pleasure and look. Make u feel good.

So rims is a must to make ur car stand out. Strengthening the car body (sway bars, strut bars, brace bars etc) MAY be ur cup of tea although I recommend changing brake lines, short shifter (for manual) and clutch line (for manual) first.
Easiest way to increase hp is to change the exhaust but so far, beside original MS exhaust (which may be legal) carried by MM, all after mkt exhaust are considered illegal. Installing unichip seems to be another 'easy' fix so if u want a piggy abck ecu, this is the way to go.
Check ur budget and act accordingly!! :D

i wud recomm to go 4 appearance enhancement.@ least, the $ u spent can b seen,& it brin out the 'individuality'.s bro ebs recomm, handlin upgrades r 'value-4-$' unless u track or like to 'sweep' corners alot,if nt,u cant really 'feel the diff'.i mean in terms of priority over here. njoy!

anyone can give me a rough idea on how much the MS exhaust cost? and will increasing the diameter of the tires give me less acceleration? will it also mess up my speedometer since it was calibrated for small diameter?

do xpect s slightly higher FC if u r gg 4 bigger wheels due to more rotation resistance.s 4 speedo,nt to worry s the overall diameter is maintained.i suppose the MS muffler wil land u somwhere bout 1.5k-1.7k range.

Hi rayshaw23.

Me second Cuscorex - go for the looks! At least for now. More applications are being made for aftermarket superchargers, turbos, exhausts, etc. to be approved (i.e. legal).

Don't be tempted to soup your RX until it's approved. Let's just say me have AMPLE experience! Heh

Getting a good looking set of bodykit and changing the wheels/tyres can set u back quite a bit liao so maybe increasing power can wait. Anyway Spore oso cannot run very fast nowadays.
Lets make ur 8 more chio lar.

i find that there is alot of gap inbetween the wheel and the arch.... thinking of getting a bigger wheel to fill it up, but i scared it will hinder the acceleration and the FC. but i dont understand how come it wont affect my speedo?
thanks pple for all the advice. will definitely start looking for a nice set of rims first.

chgin to a bigger diameter rims, the tyres u run on will b on a lower aspect ratio;like 4 ur case,OEM is 225/50/16.upgradin to OEM 18s,it runs on 225/45/18.frankli,gettin bigger wheels wt 'feel-up' the gap much,in fact,it'l make the gap look even wider due to the 'thinner' rubber used. u'l nd to chg to a 'shorter' spring to gt a lower ride ht,or upgrade to those ht adjustable coilovers.
if u maintain the same width;225,FC wt b much of a diff, juz tat u'l xperience a longer stoppin dist due to the bigger rotatin momentum.
som of us nt onli upgraded the diameter, but oso the width,so to fit in wider rubbers to gt a better road-holdin,again,the FC will b affected in tis case...

well said bro cuscorex.

In other words to fill the gap, got to stuff it with $$$$ :D :D

Stuff a lot of $$$$ , get a set of coilovers with adjustable height.
Stuff with less $$$$, change the spring.

Stuff with a lot a lot of $$$$, get coilovers and chio rims, then babe magnet become babesssss magnet :D

haha! i just went to how stuffs works and found out how to calculate the whole diameter of the tire. it turns out that the auto and manual only differs by 5mm. HAHA!!!! but it sure looks like 5 inch to me. must have been the effects of the rim. going to find a nice set of rims for my babe now!

hi guys,

yup, i installed the D2 full adjustable coilover. Heres my finding:

1) fully adjustable, hence height is not a problem.
2) comfort not too gd becos its too hard but stability 'Solid', cornering no problem.
3) Mine is a OEM body, i adjusted to 1 finger and i have no problem crossing humps unless my fren (who is 100kg) sit on my car.

hope this helps.
