broader tires

need some advice on tires. am interested in PS2 but they dun carry 225/45R18. am considering 235/40R18. would fuel efficiency be significantly affected? btw, my gas mileage is about 5.5-6km/l now. mostly city driving.

any inputs would be appreciated. thanks.

Its only 10mm. But you might want to check overall wheel size. 5.5-6? Thats very high FC.

overall wheel size would be reduced by 7mm. think should be ok. just hav to make adjustment when reading the speedo.

ya FC is bad probly due to mostly city driving (abt 15% H/W 75% city) and low usage (abt 6 days to empty one tank). would be int to know if anyone is getting better FC given similar usage pattern.

Can't help you with FC comparison, but I switched from stock 225/45R18 to 235/40R18 PS2s. FC difference is marginal but the PS2s are excellent.

Thanks. did you consider PS1 before getting PS2? heard that while not as grippy as PS2, PS1 has stiffer side walls (which means heavier too) and thus gives better steering response/handling.

i may be able to get PS1 225/45R18, at about the same price of PS2. am in a dilemma now.

according to some M3 (which uses PS) forums, there are 2 camps, one on PS2 and the other on PS1. appears that those "handling-freaks", who have used both, would recommend PS1 as they felt PS2 was poorer in steering response and handling.

PS2 is no doubt the more advanced tyre.

I am sortof a handling freak that's why I said i'm in a dilemma. also PS1 comes in 225/45R18 and PS2 does not carry this profile in Singapore.

Thanks for the inputs anyhow.

you going for pure handling or a good compromise? if compromise then PS2. PS1 will be louder for sure due to the thread pattern.

I'm into handling too, and the PS2 are enough to create some serious "testicular displacement". If you are considering between 225/45 PS1s and 235/40 PS2s, the little bit you lose in poorer steering response (which is already pretty fantastic) in PS2s you gain back with the lower profile and extra grip. Not to mention weight savings and noise reduction. Like what mkl22 said, take PS2, no need to think.
