Any starting/flooding problems here?

A guy polishing my car couldn't start it the other day, seems he moved it 100m then switched it off. After turning off aircon etc it started ok eventually.
I then did some research on the web and realised it is a common problem, and it sounds like it was a lucky escape!

But is it really only happening in cold places?? Has anyone had the same problem in Singapore? I was wondering if the higher ambient temperature helps and stops this from happening?

Anyone had this fateful flooding and had to take the car into the garage?

I'm perplexed by this flooding problem that we've all read about. I start my car and move it ten feet then shut if off (to cater to my neighbours coming and going while I wash the car). Then sometimes have to start it again a few minutes later and do the same thing. Not once have I ever experienced a failed start...the car turns over immediately.

I have also gone through numerous start- stops, some as short as 10-sec to just move the car forward or backward esp when 'kiwi-ing' the tyres but never had any problems.

IMHO, just don't touch the accelerator at all when starting the car. My dad was driving my car for a week while I was overseas and when he tried starting the car, he pumped on the gas pedal thinking it's one of those good ol' carbureted (spelling?) engines thereby flooding the engine. Then started complaining to me that the car had difficulty starting. So in the end, had to let the car sit there for the flood to drain/fuel to evaporate before the engine could start properly.

I just crack the engine with my foot OFF the gas pedal and it starts everytime. My $0.02 worth.

I had also tried moving it for a few metres and shutting down when the engine is still in the cold(haven't even reach the C mark yet) but no problem at all. Anyway, the latest flash would not inject any fuel into the car for the first few seconds so you will have lesser tendency to flood the car.

If you really flood the car, try flooring the accel padel and start the engine. If it does not work, just give up and try some times later to allow the fuel to and hopefully your plugs are still ok. If it doesn't work, that means the plugs are too wet(spoilt). Then you might have to change them.

But imo, those with difficulties starting that require a few cranks is not due to flooding. If it is, you wouldn't find it so easy to start.

i have no problems too. in fact when i just got the car, all my friends wanted to test drive it and they kept stalling the engine. on a five minute drive, a guys managed to 'kill' the engine 3 times, yet we had no problem starting. ( i felt 'pain' though)
