Alarm & Audio system

I believe all new RX8s in Malaysia does not come with an alarm system and only has a radio which tunes up to 90Hz.

Just wondering, what alarm & audio system have you installed in your 8? Would also appreciate your comments rgd the dealer and system.
Any recommendations rgd the audio system? Would prefer not to modify the dash panel.

Also checked with Captor (www.netstar.com.my) and they said that they have installed their alarm & recovery system on a few 8s. Can anybody confirm?

Cobra Alarm does not want to touch an 8 becoz they do not have the specs for the wiring system. Does anybody know where I can get it?

Thanks all.

I believe this system using GPS

If yes.

GPS will not be able to find the car once the car is under a Shelter like underground carpark.
Cos GPS can only work if its un-Shelter. as it need to communicate with satellites

Just found out that they do have GSM and GPS system. so maybe the car can still be track if under shelter conditions.

But its way too expensive for the GSM/GPS system RM4000.

The GPS system is RM2000 , but will be useless if the thief manage to drive it away fast enough and hide it under a Shelter.

my suggestion to you Rim man is install a Clifford! you can do loads with it, customize ur own alarm ringtones, hi jack, sensor, etc etc. so far, i'm very satisfied with mine. u can get it installed at CSE at DU (behind starbucks).

As for the audio, i installed an Alpine aftermarket where the cupholder lies. Do a search on Aftermarket headunits and you'll know what i'm talking about...

Me also clifford fella, also installed at CSE. The shop has already install 2 auto and 2 manual RX8 including mine and voyager18.
Marcus is thinking of customizing the center console. Put in some Alpine. I waiting for him to move the first step before i make my own.

Thanks guys for the info/advise.

What is the estimate for a Clifford system? How is it compared with Cobra?

Will also check out the Alpine system. However, Naza said that they have a Kenwood system that would fit into the RX8 without having to remove/customise the dashboard. I prefer to not to modify the look of the interior, but will have to test the Kenwood system.

Naza also do installation for the Cobra system. But Steven has recommended te Clifford, so I think I'd go for that. Should be cheaper than Cobra too.

I'm still stuck on the CD player. Kenwood system you say? Test it out and let me know Rimman, maybe we can get a group discount if it works well. Naza recommended the Clarion 6-disc changer, but I want to retain the functions on the steering.

hey guys, go for clifford! cobra is nowhere close to a clifford, trust me! plus, cobra alarms are now made in Taiwan...so out of a 200k car, u choose how u want to protect it...

As for the audio, i suggest you guys get it OUT of naza. the reason being is that the Sales guy in Naza WILL get a cut/commission from whatever they recommend to sell. so it's better u get it OUTSIDE to trim the middleman cost. So far, i'm very satisfied with my Alpine. PM me if you need more advice.

cheers!

Clifford cost around RM2000, and CSE is located at UPTOWN Damansara. The shop is facing the houses and there's a DUNLOP tyre shop just beside it. Call me at 0122338484 if you cant find it.

Unfortunately, unless I want to void Naza's warranty, I may have to install the alarm & CD changer at Naza. Alternatively, wait for 1 year, then only install the CD changer (too dangerous without alarm).

I have decided to go for Captor as I feel alarms do not work in Malaysia. A car alarm can be blasting off for 20 minutes, and nobody bothers. It only takes 3 minutes (maybe less) for a car thief to disarm and drive off a car. It is also easier to alert the authorities in the event of a hijack. But that is my personal opinion.

Can't test any audio system in Naza. They quoted me RM2000 for the Clarion CD changer + radio booster. (did not bargain yet) How much did they quote you. Don't know much about ICE.

Lennon, thanks for the referral. Checked out CSE last night. The guy there was very professional. He quoted me a JVC CD changer for RM1600. Sounds reasonable, compared to Naza. But... warranty

What kind of warranty is that?? Aftermarket alarm and audio wont interfere with the car system. Wat a lame excuse they give?? if they give me these lame excuses to me, i'll make sure Tan Sri himself to answer me in person.

Exclamation Not To Worry

Hi Rimman,

I wouldn't worry too much about the alarm and ICE for the car. I've got a viper in my car and it has been working perfectly for the last 3 months. As for our built in car player, anyone who knows about sound should have figured out for themselves that the player is a load of c*^p. The sound processing is not good at all and our tweeters from Bose has a big label 'Indonesia' at the back....(not cool at all). Our door speakers are 8" bose speakers and are made in Mexico. (sound also like pasar malam one).

I am currently doing up my ICE and i will show it to everyone at tomorrow's meetup. My car has been in the workshop for 1 and a 1/2 weeks. I will tell all the members how to reconfigure and switch our built in player to another player.

Cheers

Not to start another thread, so decided to continue on this...

I went to a friend's shop and ask for an alarm system that can use the existing 2005 switchblade FOB. He recommended me this "Cheetah" brand, made in SG, but still at $200 incl installation.

Any views on this? Or shd I skip putting alarm in my 8 since it has the immobilizer and keyless entry. Not sure what extra features a basic alarm will give me other than the siren and a blinking LED.
