6MT Stock shift ***

Although this subject has been debated in other threads in the club forum, I'd like to know what the local guys think.

I've test driven the 8 at MM(s) twice, each time for about an hour. Can't help thinking that the "rotary" ergonomics of the stock shifter might get uncomfortable after a while. Has anyone noticed that? Have you changed to another shifter?

Also, the **** is quite short so throwing into reverse is more cumbersome (IMO since I only put the car into reverse twice).

I've attached a pic of the Auto Exe leather shift **** which looks like a much better design, at least from experience in driving other manual tranny cars.

here's two more pics of the Auto Exe shift **** (and hand brake). When I get my 8 I'm going for it!

I like the looks of the stock ****. It IS on the small side, and could be uncomfortable for those with very big hands and hold the **** on top.
I have average-sized hands and I have no problem with it at all. I hold the **** on the side like I'd hold my '****'. Thumb an index finger circling the silver rotary shape on top.

You may change your mind when the chrome finish wears off the plastic substrate......

Yes, the **** is plastic, not aluminium.

i love the stock ****.. but i have big hands so it fits in my hand just right. but i dont grab it from the top. I wrap my hand around it so the shape is gooood.

I can see how if you rest your hand on the top it would wear off the finish.. But i was taught to rest my hand on the Wheel never leave it on the shiftknob. The weight alone of your hand adds to the wear and tear.. and your hand should be on the Wheel ....
